Should we expect Kindle devices 2027 with user-removable battery?
European Union ordered phones battery to be user removable 2027. Does this law apply to Kindle? Does Amazon care about Europe market? Should we expect Kindle devices 2027 with user-removable battery?

If Amazon is going to sell Kindles in the EU, then once February 2027 rolls around, any Kindle made after that have to have a user replaceable battery.

I'd say it is very likely. Here are some new messages that were contained in the recently pulled 5.19.4 firmware release:

Amazon wouldn't want to lose its european customers. So, there will be a new one, I assume!

1. Have expensive replaceable battery for the entire world 2. Have European variants with detachable battery. Both are expensive. Option 3 would be not sell newer kindles in Europe which would be too costly. |

I'm hoping Kobo does this with a new Libra BW. |

The K3 and DXG batteries were easily replaced.
One of the Oasis: Not at all. It doesn't mean a hatch/door. Just means possible with regular tools. |

No, because most just use a procoat such as hyped HzO. They are not waterproof in the sense of watertight, like a diver's watch or camera.
The fine print specifies clean water. It might not survive some bath salts or seawater. Many such gadgets are easy to open and swap the battery. A real waterproof gadget will have a door or hatch on the USB socket. |

As an aside, the current Kobo devices qualify under the new EU regulations. Basically, if you can open the device and replace the battery without needing to use proprietary tools that are not made available to the public, heat or solvents, the battery is considered as replaceable. There is nothing requiring a battery door or any other of the fantasies that have been kicked around for the last while.
As for the waterproofing, considering that very few ereaders were physically waterproofed with most using a HZO or equivalent conformal coating, opening the device does not affect the waterproofing. Removing and replacing the battery is likely to require repairing the coating. Looking at Amazon, there seem to be many sources for such coatings. Once when repairing a device, I used a spray on conformal coating which did require a gentle touch but worked well. |
