Humble Book Bundle: The Best of Robert Silverberg

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/b...ad-media-books

Quote:
Feel like you’ve read all the new sci-fi and fantasy books and looking for something a little more classic? We’ve got a bundle full of the best novels and stories by celebrated author Robert Silverberg! Dive into his Majipoor Cycle with Lord Valentine’s Castle, following an amnesiac juggler who finds out he’s the heir to an entire planet, or start with the prequel trilogy launched by Sorcerers of Majipoor, and learn how the throne became so contested in the first place. Meet the new inheritors of the Earth in At Winter’s End, a tribe of humanoids who emerge from their hibernation after an apocalypse. Or keep things short and sweet with the novella Nightwings, set on an unfamiliar Earth facing alien invasion. There are many more worlds, futures, and adventures to explore in this ebook bundle of Silverberg’s work, so grab it now at the price of your choice and support the ALA’s Freedom to Read Foundation with your purchase!
Full 31-item bundle is CA$24.58, smaller bundles also available. Ends in 20 days.

Ugghh!! I have 14 of the books so guess I'll buy the full set. Hopefully, unlike one author set from Humble Bundle, the formatting will be decent.

They're from Open Road, formatting should be good.

Like you, I already have several of them and the formatting has been good.

Annoyingly, it doesn't include one of the Majipoors I don't have... (It also doesn't include the short story collection but I already have that.)

Now I'm busily scrolling through Kobo since most of the Robert Silverberg books on Kobo are available from Kobo Plus and this drops the number of books I don't have that are in the Humble Bundle by quite a few.

Hmm... Checking my read books, I haven't given any of the books by Robert Silverberg more than 3/5.

Have I just read the duff ones, and these might be a lot better?

I've read
Beyond the Doors of Death (2/5)
Hawksbill Station (so long ago I don't have a rating for it)
The Masks of Time (2/5)
The Mutant Season (3/5)
The Second Trip (3/5)
Starbourne (2/5)
Thebes of the Hundred Gates (3/5)
To Live Again (no rating)
Tower of Glass (2/5)

There seem to be 28 books in the bundle that I don't have.
Given my previous experience, I'm not tempted, but willing to be persuaded if you think I've just been unlucky so far!

I find I read less hard SF these days, but I am interested in (nearly) completing the Majipoor sequence, Gilgamesh the King and a couple of other time travel/alternate universe novels.

Not in the bundle, but I did enjoy Roma Æterna when I read it a couple of years ago, which is why I want Gilgamesh and any alt hist.

Gilgamesh was fine. It's very much in the style that Mary Renault made popular (and the foreword even mentions that he was about ten years late to the scene, and by the time he arrived the publishers were scared to touch anything of the sort).

BTW, his name is spelled "Silverberg". I kept wondering why I wasn't getting any results from my LibraryThing catalog, and noticed the e/u discrepancy.

So I already have The Majipoor Cycle (Castle/Chronicles/Pontifex), and The Prestimon Trilogy, as well as Dying Inside (which is not included in the collection). Is there enough good, non-Majipoor in here to still make the bundle worthwhile?
