Kindle beginner questions

So I bought used kindle scribe 2024...
-I connected it to my pc and loaded some files to fill it up before entering my account.
-I connected to wifi and entered account so now i can use it. Current firmware is 5.19.2
-It tried to update firmware by itself but returned update error 10 (I guess because there is no space for update.

And now the questions:

1. Should I update or remain on current fw?
2. I guess that the only way to disable WIFI is to turn on airplane mode?
3. If I turn on airplane mode how to transfer files to the device?
4. Should I use KCC or Calibre for converting CBR/CBZ comics files?

For comic files, you should use KCC (my project) to convert to mobi. USB drop the converted mobi files directly into the documents folder on your kindle. Do not involve Calibre with comic mobi files since if you do it wrong it will add huge margins.

If you want to avoid accidentally turning off airplane mode and connecting you can take an extreme step of renaming your wifi name and password so it's impossible to connect.

As for firmware, it depends. Kindle 5.19.2 added a new UI for mobi comics and added huge margins and tons of other problems to mobi comics for some users.

2 months later the UI was reverted for 11th gen kindles whose final firmware was 5.19.2 to how it was in firmware 5.18.5 without a firmware update.

I'm not sure if it was reverted for Scribe users on 5.19.2 because everyone is either on airplane mode or updated to 5.19.4.

5.19.4 made a lot of improvements to the new UI introduced in 5.19.2 but it's still not as good as the one from 5.18.5

So what to do depends on what UI you are on, images attached.

A lot of users reported that if you update to 5.19.3 via USB and never connect to wifi you are forced onto old UI. But new ui will appear if you ever connect to wifi.

Thx for explaining. By the way awesome software I used it before to convert some manga for my brothers kindle.

Now I am on Linux and i installed appimage of KCC but for mobi it needs kindlegen whic i am not sure how to find/install. Do i lose something if i convert to PDF instead?

PDF usb on 5.19.2 is terrible for manga, don't use it. PDF via Send to Kindle is ok since it gets converted to print replica kfx.

PDF USB on 5.19.3 is also ok.

but mobi is the best if you want features like right to left, 2 page landscape, sleep covers.

kindlegen for linux exists.

I installed it successfully as appimage. I see there is also one on flathub. Is it Your official release or some other is maintaining it?

So i tried to convert couple of comics and manga with KCC and it looks to me it went perfect. Example is attached for reference, in color is original cbz file on PC and b&W is converted .mobi file as shown on my scribe. I see no unnecessary margins or anything. I am really happy with result so i don't think i will update from this firmware (will change wifi password).

So just one more question is it possible to forget network like on android so i do not have to change passwrd for wifi?
