Tags - can I remove deleted tags?

All sent. Calibre still only has my trimmed list of 33 tags. Phew!

Calibre Books now shows two different books changed (neither of the ones I used in the tag testing, but both booths I'd been reading recently)

I'm going to find the books with the unusual tags, and see if editing those individualy helps

In calibre I've added TEST2 tags to the three books that were showing the &#160 tag in justRead.
All three show as changed in Calibre Books in justRead.
Synced, and now none of them have that tag, and that tag has gone from All Tags...

Done the same for the one book with :bestseller tag in justRead

That tag also gone.

Despite doing nothing to the books except downloading the changes from calibre, all four of those books show up in Send To Calibre.

Sending the books seems to have changed nothing on calibre, but perhaps it's metadata I don't look at often.

The tag with " in it has been successfully individually changed too.

I have to do some work. Let me know if you like me to do any other tests.

I'm going to try doing some more manual changes, and see if doing some of those can make the full sync work. Although getting back to a full sync (where it notices the differences in the tags) is something that I don't know how it works.

Well, that's all of them changed in the Calibre Books dialog (Except the six that already had that tag). Syncing...

And this time all the old tags have gone away. The main difference is that some of the old tags had been deleted by syncing just one book? Or perhaps it’s that this time the books all had an added tag rather than just some missing tags.

Finally I am here, so as I understand it, now it is all OK?
I am still no near anything new, as I was trying this and that, deleting, adding, again this and that and did not find anything wrong.

I do have an old copy of my calibre library, so I could try it again. If I get time, I’ll try to reproduce the problem on Sunday.

Well. Here's a Mystery.

I deleted the TEST2 tag that I'd added to all the books in calibre and synced the calibre books again.

The TEST2 tag has gone from justRead.

But ALL the old tags have reappeared in justRead!

I'm going to sync back to calibre (as Send to Calibre is showing lots of books changed)

It seems I will be carrying on exploring tags after all.

Hello pdurrant, can you please test it with only one book, so it will be faster for you and not time consuming.

Do I get it right, that...
1. there was a book previously with multiple tags in Calibre. Also showing multiple tags in justRead.
2. then you deleted them in Calibre and add only TEST2, this propagated correctly to justRead.
3. and then you deleted even that TEST2 in Calibre, and after sync justRead is showing all those original tags?

After syncing all the books back to calibre with Send to Calibre, now 431 books are showing as Changed, so I'm now syncing back from calibre to justRead

Metadata extracted from 431 books.

'old' tags are still present.

431 books now under "Send to Calibre". Sent.

And finally no books are showing new or changed "calibre Books" and "Send to Calibre" menu item isn't present.

All the old tags are still there.

Including the weird ones (e.g. &#160) that disappeared when I synced just the books showing them after adding a new TEST tag in calibre.

What should I try next?
