Question about behavior while reading
Hello to all users. I got a feedback from one user about behavior while reading.
The user sometimes unfortunately touches the screen and that settings panel appears. Is this something others are experiencing? The user has an idea: - add an option for 'long touch' meaning you will need to leave the finger on the screen for longer for that panel to appear and disappear. - and this option will be turned off as default. Would you welcome this feature or do you think it will clutter the preferences more and more? Last edited by petrjahoda; 05-12-2026 at 08:47 AM. |

Really there? If so, this makes no sense for me, as I will never expect to have tap area in here. And if so I would never expect tapping here will show some panel on bottom. I also never saw an app with tapping in this area, maybe there is a reason for that? Also I don't know if it is not against the Apple HIG rules. |

Hi JSWolf, I know I can do it, technically it is not a problem.
But I don't know if it is not against Apple HID rules (BookFusion is not made in swiftUI, so I think they do not bother with this). Also for me and people I asked about it, this is something they would never expect even doing on iPhone (meaning touching left/right in top bar). Also users can turn on displaying that top bar with battery, wifi, etc., and that will be totally weird to touch on wifi to show the bottom panel. I would like to hear from others, because for me and people I asked around, touching left/right of dynamic island to expect any behavior in an app, is something totally strange and unexpected and never experienced. |

Hi, you are right, but as I try to follow Apple Human Interface Guidelines as much as possible, I will not be adding this feature, because that is HIG violation of three rules:
- do not put custom controls in status bar area (direct violation) - do not override system gestures (direct violation) - make interactive elements discoverable (because this is not native to Apple, people do not expect them here, so not discoverable) Also I tried now all other apps (kindle, apple books, etc.) and all have center tap. So looks like this is some kind of standard for reading apps. Maybe edge swipe from bottom to show the panel? Last edited by petrjahoda; 05-13-2026 at 10:19 AM. |
