Amazon dropping support for more Kindles

Oh, I'm not going to buy a new Kindle either. I'm just interested whether they send the email to me or not.

Same. I don't know if I've locked down my email preferences enough that I won't get one, or if it's to do with the length of time since I last used the device.

I did order a replacement battery for my kindle kb. It is meant to be arriving today. (What I don't have is the bucket of sand they recommend for inflated old batteries.)

I set my 2012 Paperwhite as my primary/default device on Amazon.com yesterday (instead of the Oasis) - I wonder if that triggered the email being sent (although it came overnight).

I’m not actually intending to buy a Kindle, but was curious if the code they sent would actually be useable at all - but no, there doesn’t seem to be any way I could actually use it if I did want to buy a new Kindle.

As several others reported I also received a second email today notification today. It appears that they sent out a new batch of them, not triggered by anything in particular. (I also do not plan to use mine.)

Yeah, it does seem like they were doing a whole new batch.

Interesting though that some people still haven’t received theirs, even though the cut-off date is now just a week (or less) away.

I still haven't been notified. And I have 2 devices (fully updated and still registered; I checked) that qualify for the May 20 cutoff. I don't really care, as I have no need for eink devices anymore, but I'm curious why I'm not being notified.

Same here. I used one of them to download a new book just a few days ago. No email.

Received a second email this morning for my Kindle Touch. Still not buying a new one.

I can use my Kindle account to view the two devices contents, and it matches what is actually on these devices.

I toy with the idea that if there is a sale on the basic Kindle before the deadline I might go for it, but I won't. Mostly because my next ereader need is for something much bigger, but also because 20% off just isn't good enough, especially since that was always available as a trade-in anyway.

When the older Kindles lost store access four years ago, the deal was 30% off a new Kindle plus a $40 ebook credit. For that, I might pull the trigger, but not for 20%/$20.

One friend of mine just let me know that she got the email today. So 6 days to the start of cutting off older Kindles which is giving plenty of notice for those who might want to download and save their current books NOT.

Oddly enough, I got a second notice for my PW 5th gen with the timestamp set to 2026-May-13 at 11:44PM PDT. Her notice was stamped 12 minutes earlier.

edit: 20% off a new device and a $25 Cdn credit is not enough to tempt me to buy another Kindle. Sadly, the two emails had the same code.

Still no email. I'm toying with the idea of contacting Amazon CS and raising hell after May 20, if I really won't get notified. Those two old Kindles are the only Kindles still registered to my account. Don't know if I can be bothered, though.

It's alive!

The battery arrived, and I fitted it and charged it in the evening. Kind of nice to see the old UI. And have buttons to turn the pages. I think I might have made the crack in the corner of the screen worse while I was prying the back off, though.

Of course I've completely changed my broadband and wifi since I last used it, so it's not actually connected, yet. I'll try to get my library downloaded and archived over the weekend. And then I'll probably never use it again.
