You can try it, just skip connecting to wifi when doing the setup, and then fill it up with random crap from your hard drive to where there is less than say, 20 MB free on the device. Then connect to wifi, register it, and send the books you want immediately, turning off wifi as soon as the books are downloaded. Then connect and try to do what you need to do to cleanse your books.

I have no idea if this will work, but it may. If it doesn't, you will have to jailbreak and downgrade. If it does, please report back.

I have tried jailbreaking and that wasn't enough (no surprise). I also did a factory reset on the jailbroken device and it still doesn't work.

It looks like downgrading is the only way to go - although the only trustworthy download (on kindlemodding.org) I can find is for the latest version of the firmware...

Well I finally got my notice on my old Kindle that it stops on May 20th. So far I still can access the books I bought. I will just disconnect it from internet before then. Though I have noticed as I borrow books occasionally some of them will not transfer to my old kindle. Which means I have to read them in my PC. My kindle for PC is working good but I have it in on my new windows 11 so there is that. I have found it easier to deal with my purchased books on my PC then my old kindle. I also am not happy reading borrowed books on a PC so will probably purchase a new kindle to keep reading borrowed books and purchases books on it in the future. The cost is minimal for this convenience.

Hopefully though kindle for PC on windows 11 is going to stay with us for a while as there are some books I like to reread (more then) so I buy those

For what it may be worth, the older Kindle firmware updates are available by modifying the URL used to download the firmware.

For instance, a Paperwhite 6th gen 5.12.2.2 firmware uses:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...2_5.12.2.2.bin

Modifying that URL to change 5.12.2.2 to 5.11.2 gives us:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow..._v2_5.11.2.bin

Which downloads a file named: update_kindle_paperwhite_v2_5.11.2.bin

I tested this back to FW 5.9.2.0.1 for the PW 6th gen and it worked for all the versions I tested. One note is that you must use HTTPS since using HTTP gives an access denied.

Amazon’s Source Code Notice for Kindle E-Readers and Fire Tablets page lists the firmware versions that were produced for each Kindle model.

The base link for the Kindle 7th gen latest firmware would be:

Substitute the firmware revision where the 5.12.2.2 is seen. So for firmware 5.8.9.2, you would modify the base URL to:

Actually, the 5.6.5 firmware release introduced KFX for PW2 and PW3 devices.

The early releases with KFX do not handle many of the KFX features that are now common in Kindle books. Any book that uses an unsupported KFX feature currently causes an older format (MOBI or KF8) to be delivered instead as a fallback. However that might change now that the devices that primarily rely on those formats are being eliminated.

What worries me more is that it's corporate, so it's probably that left-side tentacle 3 can't figure out how many tentacles there are on the right side, let alone what any of them are doing (aside from reaching into pockets to find wallets).

My Kindle 7th gen is still on 5.12.1.1. and it's not getting updated if I can help it.
1 - packed it to 40mb full
2 - took the wifi password off the servers
3 - took the wifi connection off the device (have to configure it each time)
4- confirm and delete any installers before and after use
5 - leave it powered off when not in use - but don't let the power drain fully so it ends up needing some kind of restart or refresh.

I could see the 10th gen models finally getting one last firmware update before the end of the year that puts them at 5.18.5 or above. Then it would just be the Voyage on 5.13.6 left to patch.

I wouldn't be surprised either. Which is why I finally jailbroke and disabled OTA updates on my Oasis 3! Of course, doesn't mean they won't do a code exploit like they did on 6th/7th/8th/8th gen devices!
