I'd started and discovered the public library while searching for a book, that wasn't available as digital and translated (Dahlgren); so I'd found this local library that had two main big donations, one of 3500 and another of 1500 books, all on SF genre. The library is a quarter one, little, so it's like is specialized on SF, as most of the books are on that section.
I'm buying a book if it misses from the serie I follow now, searching on used ones, as the edition is from the '70/'80.
Ps: nice packaging!

Yes to the first 3 options but only for non-fiction art/crafts/music books. Things like patterns, charts, and colours are better as hard copy but I want to see the entire book before I buy it.

Yes, but mainly cookbooks. I will check out a cookbook that I am interested in and if I like it enough I will buy a physical book.

I’ve bought probably a couple of dozen books later on that I first read as a child via the library.

I picked “Full price” but I’m not sure how accurate it is … practically all of those books (that I can remember) were older ones, published 10-20 years before I was even born, and I hunted them down one by one in second-hand bookstores years to decades later - not necessarily cheaply.

I didn’t borrow any library books at all for a long, long while … if I add some stuff I needed to consult/read for university, then let’s say no library visits at all between about 1996 and last year, when I got my Boox and realised I could actually also borrow ebooks, so I’ve read a handful or two now but these have all been books I was mildly curious about but didn’t have any desire to buy.

I have bought books that I read first from the library because I see that as supporting the author and encouraging more of the same to be written.

I've bought many books that I first read as library books, but I am a re-reader of books that are important to me. For instance, I read almost all of the books by Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov first as library books when I was younger, and own them all now (most in both paper and e versions). Those are just 2 examples, but there are many more. I also buy books that I read first in Kindle Unlimited. If a book is good enough to re-read, I will always buy a copy.

Isn't Kindle Unlimited a kind of library in this content?
Recently I buy two books which I read before in KU.

I would agree that both KU and K+ fit the subscription library model.

I will buy it:
Quote:
Sacred and Terrible Air: set in the world of Disco Elysium Paperback – 18 Feb. 2026
by Robert Kurvitz (Author)
It was previously available only as a fan translation, or the latter translation fans made by paying a professional.
It seems available only on Amazon.uk and the newest Amazon.ie (Ireland).

@Sirtel: may I ask you if you did read the Estonian, original version? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kurvitz#Literature Püha ja õudne lõhn)

No. There was no ebook, and after reading some reviews I decided I didn't want to read it enough to bother with a paper version.

Maybe Yapyap has read it?

Back when I was moving fairly frequently, I regularly bought books I read in the library. I like to reread and would pick up books not in my current library.

These days I still occasionally buy books that I read in the library, ones I know I *will* miss if they vanish from library listings, paper copies of library ebooks that work better in paper form and ebooks of library pbooks that work better in electronic form (I really, really like pop-up footnotes, being able to quickly check a dictionary/look up references, and not lugging around a hefty text).

At least the library gets to keep paper books until the library decides that the book is in too bad a condition to loan. Unlike ebooks where you run into the 26 loan/1 year or 52 loan/2 year limit on how many times they can lend it or how long the library can keep the ebook before it is automatically removed from circulation. Very annoying when you want to check out an earlier book in a series and the library would have to order a new license ($$$).

Didn't you know that eBooks get damaged after 26 loans?

I voted yes but it is only craft books and cooksbooks. I prefer physical books for knitting, crocheting and cooking. Sometimes I will get them from the library to make sure it is something I want to invest money on (and also to see if I have room) LOL
