There is no technical reason Amazon has to stop allowing older Kindles to no longer be able to download other then to try to stop DRM removal.

Did Amazon got rid of low memory devices. This could be a technical reason $$$$

Pretending there are no technical advantages (other than blocking DRM removal) to do what they've done is being just as blind as pretending that blocking DRM removal isn't one of those advantages.

If you can't imagine that streamlining a submission/conversion/delivery pipeline by (eventually) dropping to a single format for all devices isn't an advantage all by itself, then you don't have much of an imagination.

Saying it's not about DRM is hiding your head in the sand. This is ALL about DRM.

Well, some of us were overoptimistic about books to be read per year over time.

Way to miss the part where I clearly said that DRM was a factor

I'm saying it's all about blocking DRM from being removed. There's nothing technical about it other then DRM.

My guess was if, alongside the end of support for the older Kindles, and the closing of Google Play's Amazon app, it might be fine to expect a drop down on others Android-based e-readers (if the Google Play's Kindle app is closing now).
Not like I hope for freeloader, not that others e-readers manufacturers has to drop the price for that, but while thinking at one newest one, that can be put on consideration if it's happening in this period (to expect or not discount prices ).

Do you have any evidence that I am wrong? There have been other pointing out Amazon's timeline for making these changes and it all aligns with it being about DRM.

The doomsday scenario of huge numbers of people still using a Kindle Keyboard, and leaving hundreds or thousands of undownloaded books in Amazon’s cloud, AND not getting the announcement seems very unlikely. Which is not to say there will be none. Those that find themselves in such a situation can contact Amazon and perhaps get a coupon code. That said, every casual Kindle user that I know personally has been the sort to purchase, download, read, delete. They have no idea that there IS an Amazon cloud.
