Regarding the installation of the screen saver hack for versions 5.17 and above:

After jailbreaking, ensure that KUAL and Mrpi are functional.

Then, install usbnetlite via MRPI (https://github.com/notmarek/kindle-u...ases/tag/1.0.M).
In KUAL, select USBNetLite -> Toggle USBNetwork.

Connect the Kindle to the internet, and SSH into the Kindle from your computer: `ssh root@[kindle IP] -p 22`. (The default pw is 'kindle')
Using WinSCP, execute the following commands in sequence:
1. `mntroot rw`
2. `ln -s /lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3 /lib/ld-linux.so.3`
3. `mntroot ro`

After completing these steps, you can proceed to install the screensaver hack using Mrpi as usual.

I succeeded in following the steps (PW6), in fact when I ran steps 1-3 again it said I already had that file, but the screensaver hack wouldn't install via MRPI. I understand it's an unsupported system, but do you have any suggestions?

Is it possible to get this working on the Colorsofts? I know it hasn’t been updated in a long time, but I’d love to get some custom colour lockscreens on my Kindle without needing to use KOReader (which I’m not personally a fan of)

I've successfully changed my screensavers on my Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen or PW6 (5.17.1.0.4). Wasn't my work, the following is the source of the hack that I used for it. It's in Russian:

Attached is my translated version of it. I've used it on my own Kindle.

In addition, you can use this powershell script to bulk change images for it. Works for most if not all Kindles. Just plop it into the folder with all your .png images and it'll resize, dither, etc. your images to best fit your individual Kindle. If you have issues, try manually installing ImageMagick (like ImageMagick-7.1.2-13-Q8-x64-dll.exe).

I read where screensaver hacks will not work on a kindle with special offers. I wonder if this will change anytime in the future for the models that are about to be fully abandoned (including my kindle paperwhite gen 1)? I figured I'd ask before I looked into paying amazon to remove the ads which I figure needs to happen BEFORE May 20th.

There hasn't been direct support for turning off ads because it's still a current paid service from Amazon. After the general services cut off there isn't really a moral block from manually turning them off because Amazon will no longer do it, even paid.
