Ah, it's the time of year where you're wondering whether you got a(nother) cold or whether you got hay fever.

We went to the garden center yesterday and when we got there my nose start prickling and slowly I got a sore throat. The nose prickling went away when I took an allergy pill that night. The sore throat lasted, though by morning it's now merely dry and irritated. And I do have a bit of a runny nose.

It might just be another cold; I had two customers cough in my face last week. Or it might be a bit of both. I'll have to wait and see if the meds kick in properly after a couple of days.

Vacuum cleaner literally blew up. Dust everywhere!

Also got an emergency alert immediately afterwards, so it was mildly alarming to have this blaring from multiple electronics

That is annoying. But at least if you heard it, you'd know it was an alert. What was the alert for? Last alert I got was just a test.

Ah yes, working with a lot of 16 to 22 year olds. It can be fun, but some of them get riled up too easily, which others know. So there's a lot of drama between the cashiers at the moment. I'm trying my best to keep out of it. People should learn to count to ten and take deep breaths.

Just had to kill a giant ant colony on the inside (top) of a metal mailbox. Couldn't figure out why there were always a couple of ants that always came in with the mail. Then I finally crouched down and looked up into the interior of the mailbox. Heat is the only thing I can think of that might entice an ant colony to set up shop on the ceiling of a metal can.

They'll stay away from mint (and others smells, but can't recall atm; I had bees on the mailbox and finally they went away, using a remain of an essential oil: for them also mint is not on the likings - the year's fresh ones haven't grown yet). Cinnamom too is a deterrent for the ants.

After just getting tapped for the 6th time in my adult life, this whole jury duty selection process is beginning to feel a tad less than "random" to me.

I've been selected 3 times in the last 4 years. The last two times, the jury was filled before they got to me. The third time, I arrived in the morning to find signs telling me to go home, no jury was going to be needed.

The first time I was called for jury duty, in New York, there was an exemption if you were a woman. I kid you not. The only catch was that you had to claim it the first time; I suppose the logic, reasonably enough, was that if being a woman was a deterrent, it was a deterrent from the start.

I really can't complain too much. Out of the first 5 times, I was only ever seated on a jury once. Two other times I had to report, but the parties settled before voir dire began. The other times, my juror number was not called to report during my span of being on call.

In the event that I'm ever in the position of having a jury of my peers decide my fate, my hope is that the jury is not entirely comprised of people who couldn't find a way out of serving and are looking for the quickest resolution they can find.

EDIT: I was mistaken. There was only one time my number was never called. The other time I was dismissed during voir dire.

I was called to jury duty once. I was let go. It could have been because I put on the form that my cousin was a federal court judge back then.

Only been called once and I never even had to go in. Everything kept settling just before trial.
