Unhappy "This item is not signed by an authorized developer."

A relative gave me their old Kindle (4.1.4) and I successfully jailbroke it, but now I can't get KUAL to work. I keep getting the "This item is not signed by an authorized developer. Please contact the developer." message. As per the advice here, I tried reinstalling MKK, but no luck. I just wanna put epubs on it! What can I do?

You need to install the DevCerts update:

Thanks for your answer! Alas, now I get the message "An error occurred: Main class instantiation threw a RunTimeException." 😱

That error means you installed the booklet version of KUAL. It doesn't work on Kindle 4. You can fix it just by running the uninstall.bin file from the KUAL package.

You need to use the kindlet version of KUAL. Just copy KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 to your Kindle's documents folder.

Thank you so much! I now have a functioning version of KUAL. Now I just need to add something that can read all those epubs.

Koreader and it's many many plugins that extend functionality. (and also has a kual menu launcher item).

Also I keep the devcerts or update-mkk packages in a folder named "pkgs" on /mnt/us so if it locked me out of kual again I can just copy the package to mrpackages and then from the kindle click search then ";log mrpi" followed by enter. This will launch mrpi and it will install any packages in that directory. Had to do that just today in fact because I deregistered a kindle and they broke something even though I had OTA updates blocked so I installed the "block-amazon" package to see if it can help.
