What fonts or type of fonts does everyone here dislike? I dislike slab serifs.

I'm perfectly happy with most serif fonts, including the slab serif ones that you so dislike. The serifs help to guide my eyes along. On the other hand, I generally dislike sans serif fonts for reading (although I accept that they can look quite smart).

Serif fonts are my go-to, but on an e-ink screen, something that looks too much like a "book font" just doesn't feel right. For example, I don't like the Palatino or Baskerville fonts, as it doesn't click with me when using them on a screen rather than a book page. @JSWolf's CharisSIL is the 'most serif' I can go with. It's likely just the way my brain is. Sans-serif is a no-no for me, but I know they're easier for others to read.

Bookerly and similar fonts work best for me because they 'disappear' into the screen the best, so I'm not distracted by the font itself. CharisSIL does this pretty well, too. I'm quite particular about the line-height/font scale, having got used to Bookerly. Many fonts are either too big or too small for the Kindle font sizes, and quite often leave a big gap at the bottom of the screen, which I find too distracting, and I don't have the know-how to fix it.

Returning to the topic, I've recently started working on formatting ebooks, and I was trying to decide which fonts to use. I wanted to avoid something that I think is overused like Times New Roman and Arial. Two fonts that were recommended in YouTube videos for ebooks are Garamond and Verdana. Verdana was okay (I use it for headings), but to me Garamond looked a bit thin (so much so that it looks much lighter that the other fonts on my screen). Due to that, I checked the other available fonts and chose Bookman Old Style at 13 points for the main body of my ebooks. It looks good on my ereader screen, and it doesn't have something that strongly dislike with a font like Georgia, numbers that vary in height and position. *I use a similar font (DaveGibbonsLowerIntlRegularLatinFlipFont) on my smartphone at times because it is so easy to read. BTW, Dave Gibbons did the lettering on the comic book miniseries Watchmen which was used as one of the inspirations for Comic Sans. |

Libertinus Serif, Fern, Gentium, Fira Sans Condensed. Also, if you like condensed monospaced font (like I do), check out Iosevka and PragmataPro. I own the latter, an expensive purchase but feeling less and less so the more I use it.

Garamond and Palatino, along with most sans-serifs, most notably Arial. They just look cheap to me.
