We dropped the TV part of cable this month, keeping only the internet portion. Saved over $60/month. It doesn't matter to me-- I don't watch TV anyway-- but the Muffin Man does enjoy watching "American Top Chef" and similar. He'll just have to get his cooking inspiration elsewhere.

So, can someone who knows tell me what's wrong with silicone on windows? Is it because of the wood mouldings?

I believe it is because silicone cannot be painted, plus it is difficult to remove. Some silicones are dyed specifically to match your bathroom décor, but paint will not stick to it.

There are caulking sealants that can be painted but these aren't generally used to seal between glass and wood.

I would therefore stick to Yvan's (the expert's) advice on how to seal a paned window and stick with glaziers putty.

Metal window panes, on the other hand, may require a totally different solution.

We used the linseed oil putty because we have a Victorian house and that is what was used originally. I'm pretty sure there is a reason why putty and silicone shouldn't be mixed, but not sure exactly why.

I believe that if silicone and linseed putty mix they fuse at a sub-atomic level and result in a quantum reaction that can cause the glass in your windows of your house to transmogrify into a relatively unresearched variant of an Einstein/Rosen bridge causing them to become portals to alternative universe, and obviously you wouldn't want to look out your window and see a YateK from Gimlon III strolling past would you?

what have you got against YateKs? Although I suppose the problem is that you might not get a strolling scene, but rather, something that should really be kept private. (I understand YateKs consider eating to be one of those functions.) A good entwined particle tuner would help in this situation, but the only source I know of in this stellar system is Montsmags Enterprises, and it comes as a package deal with automatic ZCD delivery (like all their other products), so I've decided to skip it.

Oh nothing against YateKs personally just the 'things that should be kept private' bit, and the obvious the fact it becomes very difficult to see your own garden too.

I really must try one of these ZCDs

Hmm, I normally only object to their poetry. It's interesting, but - in the long term its annoying to see your garden destroyed in the last verse.
(I dont have a garden, so they normally choose one of my potted flowers).

Otherwise known as a television upon which you can watch the (NONONONONONONONO not the) Eurovision Thrash a Song Contest where each voting panel will vote for its neighbours.

By the way Zelda, if you pay rent, what does that cover ? surely it should include outside maintenance of the building which is what your 'flood' issue should be classed as .....

As this is a Vent and Rant thread, can I just vent my spleen a little about the Eurovision Song Contest. Really, just rename it the 'Who's got the most friends / strategic allies' contest. That way, we could get rid of the tiresome having to listen to songs bit and just watch the voting.

Well aware that this may well mean nothing to all the transatlantic members reading, however, if the US State Department ever want a snapshot of European national allegiances then they could save money on spies etc and just watch the Eurovision Song Contest - seriously, somebody over there suggest it to them and mention that I'll take payment for the idea in any currency.

Also...I almost forgot...when the hell did Israel become part of Europe? Jeez!
