Introducing PageBlaze

Hi all,

The test version of PageBlaze includes a new "AI Chats" feature called "PageBrAIN". Start or resume chats from the Books page:

Note the following about AI chats:

• PageBrAIN uses the OpenAI API, which provides "a simple interface to state-of-the-art AI models for text generation."
• Only OpenAI is supported at this time.
• In production, you must supply your own OpenAI API key. See this HowToGeek article for instructions.
• Visit OpenAI to see the list of models here. gpt-4.1-mini has a good balance between speed, cost and performance.
• Chats and chat history are stored in the browser.
• Chats will not "follow" you to a different browser.

Enter your API key and a model in settings:

For testing, and only testing, we have provided an API key with a small limit. You will still need to put something in the "AI API Key" setting, even "dummy key". The model is fixed to gpt-4.1-mini.

A few other minor changes:

• The navigation menu works better when the screen is in portrait mode.
• The colour-coding of the "Reading Now" button on the Home page has changed:

Hi all,

The recent changes in test have been migrated to production. In addition to the above, there is also a new "Slideshow" feature, e.g. for displaying your book covers on a tablet sitting on your bookshelf. (The default cover thumbnails from Google are very small, and those from LibraryThing are just okay. You may wish to specify your own cover URLs in the Edit Books screen.)

API key reminder: You will have to supply your own OpenAI API key to use the "PageBrAIN" AI insights feature.
