Perhaps the book is faulty? Is it the same book that you had problems with before? This certainly isn't a "generic" problem, as you can see from this forum.

What you can do against freezes/errors:

- Only use MOBI/PRC files (you can convert all formats with MobiReader software on your PC).
- Always turn off your reader manually (no Auto-Off).
- Don't use pre-installed fonts (especially Verdana), but free available ones - lots of recomendations here in the forums.
- Just use books from the internal memory and don't use more then 20-30 books (bootup will be faster too).
- Always safely remove your reader from USB (either with Windows functions or special tools)
- Keep your batteries charged well (don't go below 30%, some even say 50).

I know some of this sounds like Vodoo, but I've never had any freeze/error this way (and I use my reader very often - 5-10 minutes spare time = reading).

Hi!....,

uuuumh..:

1- I read Mobi format, converted from MSword o txt using Mobi tools
2- I always turn it off manually
3- I use Arial font, i've got it from my PC (I had troubles when i didn't put the whole set of files, but now they are all inside).
4- I only use internal memory, no sd card at all.
5- Always safely removing
6- And finaly, the battery never had been under 70% - 80%.

Thanks a lot.

Have you tried reflashing the firmware?

I'm sure that Bookeen must have a "flashable" version of the firmware for these devices, even if it's not been made public. I'd suggest contacting Bookeen and asking their advice.

Yes - the important thing to stress to the original poster is that this is not normal behaviour. My CyBook has literally never hung during a reading session. Occasionality it hangs on booting, yes, but once it boots, its stability (for Mobi files) is 100%.

Mine does, all of the time. I'm running firmware 820. Here's what happens:

I'm reading a book and suddenly the device becomes unresponsive. LED won't flash when I try to change pages and it simply becomes a brick. I then have to use the reset pinhole on the back of the device. Once it boots back up and I select the book it goes to the page where I STARTED my previous reading session on. In other words, it loses ALL the progress I've made during the previous reading section.

It is bad enough to where I'm having to click the Menu button then "Back to Library" and then click back on the book every 15-20 minutes so it will save my progress. I'm run the equivalent of a chkdsk on my mac (I think) which means I did a verify and repair permissions. I haven't reformatted the internal memory to FAT 32, and I was thinking of doing that, but the OP just stated that he's having the problem I'm having even after doing that.

It's getting pretty annoying and the only thing I can think of is not safely removing hardware. On a mac, you have to drag the drive icon to the trash (which becomes an eject button). Once I do this, it's only safely ejected for ~3 seconds until it automatically remounts, and I've probably mistimed it a couple of times.

Haven't emailed them yet. I'll do it now, although I don't know what more they can do other than repairing permissions. It does it on all my books.

Anyway, I'll post back when I receive a response for everyone else who's having this problem.

This seems to be related with the newer Gen3 and <=10.4 incompatibility...

For the crash problem, does your book are on the internal memory, or a SD card?

Can you try with a SD card to see? I think there is some problem with internal memory handling on newer models and when there are bad blocks in it, it's tend to behave strangely...
