Cannot send two books to a device at the same time. I can only send either or

Hi,

I'm sure this is a common issue, but I couldn't search for it.
Can someone help me?
I use Kobo Clara BW.
Just for certain books in a series (Book 1, Book 2, etc.)
If I try to send both Book 1 and Book 2, it only sends the most recent one I exported.
So, for instance, Book 2 got transferred.
If I try to transfer Book 1, it gets transferred, but Book 2 is automatically removed.
I tried changing the name, changing the template to add the ID, etc., but to no avail.
Other series are fine, and it just happens from time to time.
Can someone shed some light on this, please?

That sounds as if your send to device save template is generating identical file names. Can you post it here?

Ebook/{author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)}/{title} - {authors:sublist(0,1,&)}

Note that I do not use the series in the template since Kobo ereaders support series out of the box.

Some authors, especially in the LitRPG genre, are lazy about book titles, and just call them Book 1, Book 2, etc. If HalbonPO is giving the books identical titles based on the series name and relying on the Series increment to differentiate them, this could happen.

Either HalbonPO could adjust the book titles to be different, or edit the device save template to include the series number at the end of the saved filename:

I think this is a great use for the plugboard . ... EXCEPT all books would get this treatment,,, SO Fixing the book name in Calibre is the way to go (or simply EPUB Merge that into one title... But that has drawbacks as the book can get huge.

OP First use the Find Duplicates plugin to find books in your library, (sort results as needed) and the use bulk mode of the MDE to ADD as suffix, 'book \1'

This will solve the problem.because each book will also have the series name and series number as part of the filename so no issue with one book overwriting the other. And it's the easiest solution.

books/{author} - {series} {series_index:0>2s|| - } {title}

Yes, the template was the problem.

I had it default to "{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}"
and I took JSWolf's suggestion and changed to: "books/{author} - {series} {series_index:0>2s|| - } {title}"

Wow!
No issue uploading those books I struggled initially.
I did put some unique names, even though they are in Series, but that didn't work initially...
