Dealing with Kindle ebooks in calibre

Let me check... Ok, I have Kindle 8.144.1.0 installed on my rooted WSA, and my "method" still works, if you can call that "working". One book at a time, and you have to manually form keyfile for the plugin, but I guess? I am pretty sure that only one person ever used it though (I made it but I don't use it aside from testing a bit). It is a pain. (As noted above, keys are often the same for Android and PC and Mac, at least, for the same book).

Thank you IKMILLER…. I did indeed find my downloaded kindle book in my documents.

My new question is will calibre access books using 11th gen kindle say the 6.8 inch 8gb kindle white. I have decided it is too risky buying 10th gen as I don’t trust eBay much anymore

No. The DRM for the newest firmware has not been broken.

I know that the older devices like the 5th Gen are so difficult that you have to download from Content & Devices, then wait forever, the restart the Kindle. I believe that the restart is going to be the way they get those ones to sneakily update when they are always on airplane mode and only turned on to download a book.

It isn't intentional, but the fact that the Kindles are so old that it's hard to download the formats, but its going to be a nice side effect that allows those sneak updates.

While the Kindle Touch is old, it works very well to download. I just go to Amazon, specify which eBooks I want to download, go to the Kindle Touch, turn on WiFi and the eBooks download.

First I heard about someone being unable to DeDRM a book from a Paperwhite 3 (7th gen), I turned on my Oasis 2 which runs the same firmware to check. I only had wifi on long enough to download a book. No restart. New book couldn't be DeDRMed. Previous downloads still fine.

My Kindle Touch (5th gen) has had no issues downloading books. I don't even push the book via Content & Devices. Just wake it up, turn on wifi, and download from there. No need to restart.

Well being able to access after a fashion my books on my puter in my kindle has relieved me a bit. I will probably come some time in May go ahead and buy a new kindle. The $20 coupon and $20 credit to buy books is enough incentive for me. And yes I understand side loading in the new kindles is very very difficult and currently you have zero access to the books on it purchased through Amazon.

I just wonder how long Kindle will leave things alone and they update current kindle for PC to prevent any access at all to your purchased books on your PC.

I also have decided currently also I will not purchase Epubar ultimate as the DeDRM v10.0.18 seems to still work. Though I found the techy-notes guide to using it unhelpful and frankly too complicated. Yes there is a much much easier way. And yes I hope kindle doesn’t soon kill this method also

There are speculations that Amazon is planning to kill Kindle for PC altogether. So I wouldn't wait for long to liberate my books, if I were you.

That my huge worry going forward and why I’ve also resisted updating my kindle as well though that isn’t gonna work long either when they decide to kill it. I just dislike a lot the idea I can buy a book and have zero control over it. I know people like Kobo but I am not sold

You can buy books from Kobo or Google Play and deDRM them without having a dedicated Kobo reader. It's quite easy.
