I don't know what happened with the Windows installation, but I think I have a solution. You might see a Windows installer message saying "Retry" or "Next," but with this active wait of up to 15 seconds, the MSI should find a clear path 99% of the time. Try this version; if it works, I'll consider it the final version.

I did a repair install and it worked. But, the installer ran right after the GUI closed. I'm not sure the GUI is closing properly. It runs the backup plugin and that takes longer for the GUI to close then it does via the Updater. Also, I think the MSI runs too fast as some people may take longer to close.

The plugin closes all processes, such as removing any remaining instances of ebook-viewer.exe, ebook-edit.exe, and calibre-parallel.exe, or any backup copies that are open to run the installer. For each installation on different operating systems, the plugin recognizes which system you are using.

Does is do a proper shutdown or does it do an end task type shutdown?

Wait for the calibre instances and related processes, such as backups, to close, and then close the application.

I'm preparing for version 1.2.9 so that the plugin recognizes a new version of calibre and notifies the user in a window with update buttons.

One-Click Update Dialog: If an update is found, a new dedicated window appears showing the new version number. You can start the update immediately with the "Update Now" button or postpone it with "Not Now".

Is this going to notify for the .1 type releases? And if so, can you make an option to just notify of the .1 type releases? I already get notified by calibre of normal updates. Thanks.

I downgraded calibre and it worked as advertised.
