Can pictures of documents be zoomed again, or is it still broken?

Tip: unwanted software updates that change behaviour, is a breach of contract and allow the customer to give the product back and get his money back, no matter how old the device...

It's not like you're going to get malware on a kindle so even after support ends nothing changes and you can go on just reading books. If I still have and use my current kindle in 13 years time or however long ago those soon to be unsupported kindles were released I'd be amazed.
According to that list, December 31, 2028... As far as I know, it's still 2026.

And no drama, just no more Kindles ever again.

Correct, it's 2026. Your kindle won't suddenly stop working in 2028, just like the 2012 kindles didn't stop working in 2016.

That's all that's missing, for them to cancel the updates and for it to self-destruct in 3, 2, 1...

The date given in the website is for security updates least supported date. So, in case of a major security breach, the device will guaranteed receive software fix till that date. How fast/frequent is not known. Also, its minimum. Post that date also, security fixes is possible but not guaranteed.

What the date does not guarantee is the availability of features coming to new devices. There is no statement that indicates that every feature will be made available in older devices. Only Amazon knows the answer for it.

5.19.3.0.1
Zoom pics in documents, still broken and obviously Amazon's 3rd world devlopers think its better to open an external link for HTML-pictures without internet connection, instead of being able to read the article...

Nice from Amazon, by breaking a feature, to offer me the money back for my old Kindle.

Bullshit, there will be no update for ending support of older devices. The shop deletes older ebook formats. And: it is common practice for manufacturers to eventually discontinue support for older electronic devices. This applies to devices that are more than 14 years old. The devices themselves won't become electronic waste; you just won't be able to buy new ebooks with them anymore.

Here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=372947 (quoted mail) I can't read anything about an upcoming update for older kindle devices that kills the ability to buy ebooks in the future. Do you have a source for a different information?

Try it and give us information about your success. Once support ends, there is no longer any obligation to maintain the promised features. If a mobile phone provider shuts down 2G service and you have a phone that only supports 2G, can you ask for a refund?

While I get your general sentiment about large corporations not being obligated to support their hardware forever, this specific example isn't a good one.

There is a finite amount of cell spectrum to use, so you must remove older tech like 2G/3G to make room for 4G/5G. Whereas there is no limited resource these older Kindles are taking up.

And they could have been polite and pushed a final update so people could use offline collections, that requires registering afaik.

According to these comments, the log upload battery drain problem came back in the past few days.

Issue was not resolved, seen 300MB of data sent since the device was factory reset, it does now have even more issues and the device is very laggy. This update is absolute trash and seemingly impossible to downgrade.

Unsure on channels to report these issues, would have hoped Amazon employee's or AI bots would monitor the subs for feedback but will have to do some digging, as it stands the device is almost unusable in its current state.

EDIT 3 (4/21):

Issue appears to have returned.

Issue is back after a brief hiatus.

Kindle has been ‘asleep’ and not even picked up today.

It seems rather odd that when the wording quoted below is in the emails sent by Amazon specifically states that you will not be able to purchase, borrow or download additional books on them after that date, that you would read that as not killing the ability to buy ebooks. Nothing about an update on the device, Amazon is updating on their servers.

Quote:
* You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.
* If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way.

Just bought a new-to-me PW, to upgrade my still working PW1, that has served me incredibly well for 13+ years, but with a failing micro-usb port.
I asked the seller the version, and it was 5.18.x, so I could jailbreak. But today I got hold on it and... the seller factory resetted it and upgraded to 5.19.3.0.1 No KOReader for me

BUT, I thought I was buying a PW5, and it's a PW6!! Still, probably will be collecting dust until the day a new jb enters the scene.
