still won't boot
I just ran a test and reinserted the old card to rule out the possibility that the issue has anything to do with the device itself. When the old card is inserted, I can enter recovery mode. With the new card, I can't. So it must be the SD card I'm using. What specifications does it need to meet for this to work? (I flashed the image using Etcher.)

Now it's booting!
It seems the problem was actually with the SD card. I'll post the two that didn't work. Maybe we can figure out what the issue is from them. Thanks so much for the help!
