When the EBD is showing can you append the additional items to the menu rather than injecting them into the short menu

PS - why 'native Tag browser'. AFAIK there's no 'alien Tab browser'.

Two requests

1. Show empty columns - [None] - The color for emphasised items in the palettes

2. Allow Widths to be set to "Fit to content" - perhaps something like this, but simpler.

Other times it appears within the Find box, which partially conceals the 'X' dismiss button.

Because I drive EBD from the book list context menu it doesn't really bother me.

BTW #1 - if I remove this — CALIBRE_NO_ICONS_IN_MENUS=True — I don't get that quasi-checkbox in the menu, I get the EBD icon - I doubt even 0.01% of calibre users have that EnvVar set. And why do they set it, to get rid of distracting icons that serve no purpose.

BTW #2 - I'm finding EBD very useful, having columns in a tab-aware, always-there panel is a boon. Highly recommended for those who are mouse averse.

I sometimes get this when I start calibre -- it's a remnant from EBD.



Not sure why? Goes away when I pop EBD in TB space.

Ah, great. I had that too a few times while testing, then it went away eventually. Was waiting for feedback on this indeed. I couldnt find what triggers it.

At the moment I'm a bit busy with another plugin, but at some point I will take a careful look at each one of your observations.

I'm glad you like it.

I've uploaded a new version with a couple of UI changes; hopefully the "EBD remnant" issue is fixed. Further updates will take some time.

Nope - I think it appears if you start calibre with nothing in the left panel - i.e. no TB, no BD - which my preferred starting state.

I also note that when the remnant appears, EBD gets the "Switch to Wide/Narrow" wrong.

I'm going to investigate further. BTW, how can I reproduce that quasi-checkbox thing? I don't get that on the context menu for the books in the library, even with Icons set to Off. Does it happen with JS+ disabled?

Ah right, I forgot your env var. Now I can reproduce, but it seems any plugins that create togglable panels will display such checkbox, see what happens with n-pages-previews:

I can understand having checkboxes in menus when it indicates a choice between alternatives, such as this:



But the one for EBD does not get checked when I press enter on EBD, but when I press enter on the Extended Book Details submenu item:



And, the checkbox can ONLY be seen if an environment variable, whose sole purpose is to suppress clutter in menus, is set. As I wrote previously, I doubt even 0.01% of users would have the EnvVar set… maybe even just me and whoever requested it

I don't use N-Page Previews, not sure I even know what it does.

1.5 version has a fix for the checkbox display with the no icons env var.
