I also wanted more statistics on my reading, but again, the developer of Moon didn't like my suggestions, so I eventually added built-in reading functionality as well -- with lots of stats!

So, I may be a bit late to the party, but here's JetReader.

It supports manual and automatic sync against all recent Calibre versions (including 9), and I'm working on adding a Wireless Device connection right now.

I'm very interested in hearing what more people would like, so if anybody tries it out, but wants more, do not hesitate to let me know (here, or via any of the contact options at the top of this page -- e-mail, Discord and Reddit).
The feature we most need is iOS support! Without an iOS version, it's not a replacement for CC.

Roger that! I'm building it using MAUI, which also supports iOS. So I just need to get my hands on an iPhone to test with. I think perhaps I can inherit one from a family member -- will prioritize this.

So this appears to be just another Android ereader app, not a replacement for Calibre Companion/Calibre Sync. Or am I missing something?

Not to sound rude, but there are probably dozens of ereader apps, but no viable Android replacements for the aforementioned Calibre library apps. Or can your app act as such?

EDIT: Hmm.. Not available for my jailbroken 10th gen. Fire HD8, which did work well with CC and CS.

BTW.. The FAQ works in Chrome, but not in Firefox or Edge. Page renders, but dropdowns don't work.

I think you are missing the part that does what CC did! JetReader is both. Of course, I may not have used (or know about) everything CC did, but one of the main goals with JetReader is Calibre synchronization. It can connect to Calibre content servers, and let you browse the books there, and download what you want. The app has a library viewer that lets you sort and filter your books, similar to CC.

When you have created a connection, you can also set up automatic sync -- personally, I have it sync in the background once a day, so that I always have all my books on my eReader as well. (And it also syncs back read status, so that's always updated in Calibre.)

Wireless Device connection is almost done, and will come in the next update.

I think so! But perhaps there are some important CC features I have missed?

(And yeah, there are dozens of ereader apps -- I've used some of them myself, and there are many great reading apps out there! What I wanted with JetReader was more stats, easier navigation and shortcuts (especially on my eReader), and better dictionary/translation support. But the Calibre sync-parts of JetReader is built in such a way that you can completely ignore the reader-parts if you want to read using other apps.)

Another goal of mine is complete customizability of everything from the home page, to the library browser and the reader. I'm not quite there yet, but adding more and more whenever I can.

Shoot. I'll investigate both -- thank you for letting me know!

No problem Calibre Companion is probably a bad example if you've never used it. You could check out Calibre Sync's website to get an idea how it works. It's similar in aim.

I have a couple of questions:

First, will it be possible to use your app to connect to my library in a cloud service such as OneDrive, then download and open a selected book using my current ereader app?

Secondly, I looked up JetReader in the Play Store with my phone. It appears there is no way to try the app before purchase?

Thanks for your reply.

It always worked in my Firefox and Edge, so I haven't managed to confirm the fix. But I made some simplifications to the FAQ, so it hopefully works in all versions now.

I have used CC, but not CS. Took a look at it now, and I guess it's much the same. JetReader doesn't (yet) have all those connection options, but I'm working on it. Dropbox/WebDAV/NextCloud/Owncloud is already implemented for data sync in JetReader, so these will be easy to add, at least.

Soon! The current version only works through Calibre content server. I'm working on adding Calibre Wireless Device connection and cloud service libraries right now -- I'll let you know once that's done. And yes, regardless of how you get the books into JetReader, you can any open books using your current ereader app.

I hadn't really thought of that. Maybe I should make a free version or a trial version or something. I'll consider my options.

Thanks for the follow-up. FAQ is now working in Firefox.

Yes, it would be good to have some way to see if the program is a good fit before paying. I realize the Play Store *typically* lets you request a refund within 48 hours of purchase, but that may not be long enough to experience all the programs features or disadvantages.

Looking forward to seeing how this shakes out. Good luck with your development!
