Personally I would never install an update on a device it was not released for.

I've done it before on my Libra 2. Many people have done it on their Kobo Mini since it's no longer getting official firmware updates.

I've done it before on my Libra 2 and many do it on their Kobo Mini. I've not heard of anyone having a problem on their Mini with new firmware. As long as it's for the same hardware revision, it works.

OTOH, other than the Libra 2 where the issues with the Kobo Remote are severe enough that Kobo decided to do a phased rollout, I'm not sure if I would recommend installing pre-release firmware unless you enjoy living on the bleeding edge. |

No. The processor, the power management hardware, the hardware support for the eInk panel, the wireless hardware are all different. You will either end up doing a manual factory reset or asking for an image of a Libra 2 that matches your hardware revision.

A kobo with a microSD is easily fixable. But the Sage has soldered storage, so cannot fix it outside of sourcing another mobo for it - if that even possible.

For what it may be worth, I haven't seen 4.38.23648 cause any boot issues on my 5 devices that I installed it on.

23648 works for me as well, the menus feel faster. But I don't want to go crazy with updates, after all, I just read text files. |

Not all Kobo with an SD card are easily fixable. fixable. The Libra 2 is not easily fixable because of the gunk on the SD card.
