I have tested the plugin using both x11 and wayland it works in both.

The commands open new terminals which is good.

Do you have workspaces enabled on your system? If you do then your system could be opening the terminal for the plugin on a off screen workspace.

Side question: Will the Auto-updater plugin show up in the plugin browser of Calibre? I have searched for it each time I've installed the updates, but I haven't seen in in the plugin browser itself. I've had to install from the file in this thread.

On Linux, rather than opening a terminal, you might instead just do something like:

pkexec calibre-debug -c "from calibre_plugins.auto_updater import linux_gui; linux_gui()"

the linux gui function can then show a simple PyQt UI that displays the output of running the update command from its stdout. pkexec is supposed to take care of prompting the user for password.

KDE Plasma has two virtual desktop workspaces enabled on my system. I don't see a terminal launching on either when I use the auto-updater plugin.

Thanks for this plugin!
Is there a reason this is not included in the index, so I can download and update from inside Calibre?
Is there any way for you to integrate this with Calibre's message in the UI about available updates?

Tested the new version, and it did update after asking for my password. Was the updated Calibre supposed to restart after the update? It didn't launch itself, but after I launched the app myself it shows 9.6 is now installed.

No, it doesn't restart; it restarts using the icon in your taskbar.

But I'm glad it's working now. I'll leave this version for Terisa to test, and if it works for her on Windows, I'll make it the new version.

Cool. Cool. Thanks again for developing this plugin, and working with me to get it working on my system. I imagine after it reaches a stable version it will show up in the built in plugin updater?

Perhaps a moderator could add it to the plugin index.

Hello,

I think I'll be able to test it tomorrow or on Sunday (I've got a computer without updating...) If it's not possible, I'll test it with the next release.
