My findings on bluetooth audio ouside of Nickel

I've been doing some digging around in my quest to move my podcasts and music over to the Kobo. It's not much but here are my findings:
  1. The instructions from OGKeven work great for connecting to the bluetooth device.
The Libra Colour uses the MTK variation--the DBus service used is com.kobo.mtk.bluedroid and not org.bluez. See https://ogkevin.github.io/kobo.koplu...perations.html

The scripts I used are available here: https://github.com/nishantjr/kobo-bluetooth

    Use `./bt function-name` to run.
  2. Although the binaries for bluealsa are available on present on the Kobo, they do not appear to be patched to work with the MTK dbus path.
  3. Manually editing the binary to change the dbus path (very hacky in vim; overwrote some other data since org.bluez is shorter than com.kobo.mtk.bluedroid) seemed to get further, failing at a "Adapter not available" error rather than not finding the service.
  4. At this point I'm pretty sure that Nickel isn't using bluealsa to connect to audio devices.
Looking at the strings in Nickel binaries and shared libs, it seems likely that it is making the DBus calls to interact with the device directly from there.

At this point, there are two ways I can think of to proceed:
1. See if the standard Bluez bluetooth stack would work
2. Write a player that interfaces specifically with Kobo's bluetooth stack

I don't think I have the motivation to do either of these though :-(
