Thank you for the update.
I tried wit the same WAD. Screen goes black when I run it from KUAL. If I lock the screen I see the emulators screen in about 40% of the Kindle screen size. I cannot interact, game freezes the device. I see that the WAD is loaded, but cant play. Last edited by Piecho; 04-05-2025 at 01:38 PM. |

It was a bit bugging me that the Doom port for our beloved Kindle was still a bit buggy (no proper high resolution display support) - so I took some time to correct the resolution issues. Hopefully it should run correctly on any touch Kindle.
Heck, Doom runs natively even on my videoprojector, why not on the Kindle? Made some optimizations for the rendering too (dithering is precomputed, framebuffer filled linearly), so it should run faster. Still, it's mostly unplayable, but heck, it's cooler than cool ![]() The attached file contains the executables for PW2 and HF architectures; the architecture is detected automatically at startup. It also has launcher for the original Doom and Doom2 (just download and copy DOOM.WAD and DOOM2.WAD in the doom folder). |

Small teaser of my latest progress on porting more recent Doom editions:
Here's a screenshot of Doom Dark Ages running on Kindle. Fortunately it only needed a port of Proton library and Wine 10 from the Steam deck, with adapted Vulkan drivers. For a smooth experience I had to dial down the graphics settings a bit. Still need to tweak the gamma settings, as the original game is too dark, as you see in the attached screenshot. Current requirements include 120GB free space for the game data and 20GB for the emulation libraries. It only runs on ARM-HF architecture, as Proton and Vulkan have no soft float support. |
