[GUI Plugin] calibre Auto-Updater

My system is Windows 11. I've tested version 1.2.3 and, although the installer is downloaded and calibre ends, nothing else happens, there is no installation and calibre still is stopped.

I've prepared v1.2.4 with two specific fixes for KDE:
Process Detachment: Added a 'setpgrp' flag so the terminal becomes independent of calibre.
Konsole Persistence: Added the --noclose flag which is sometimes required in newer KDE versions to keep the window visible.
If this still doesn't show the terminal, could you please try running calibre from a terminal yourself, try to update, and copy here any error message that appears in the background? That would be incredibly helpful!

Uninstalled the old, and installed the 1.2.4 plugin. This time I get a second error window after clicking "yes" in the updater plugin's dialogue window, which states:

calibre, version 9.5.0
ERROR: Error: No compatible terminal found.

Running Calibre from the terminal shows only the following output. No further output prints to terminal when I try the updater plugin.

Tested v1.2.4 on MacOS 26.3.1. Calibre auto-quit after completing the download, and the disk image auto-mounted. Thanks, looks perfect to me!

Hi everyone, and special thanks to Lavender and Terisa de Morgan for their invaluable feedback!

I’ve just released v1.2.5, which addresses the 'silent fail' and 'terminal not found' issues reported on both Windows 11 and Linux (KDE).

What’s new in v1.2.5:

For Windows 11 Users (Terisa): Improved the installer launch logic. If the standard method is blocked by OS security during calibre's shutdown, the plugin now forces a detached execution of the MSI installer.

For Linux/KDE Users (Lavender): Refined the subprocess handling to be fully compatible with Python 3.12 (calibre 9.x). Added a safety delay and removed legacy flags that were causing silent crashes in environments like Kubuntu.

Enhanced Fail-safes: The plugin will no longer close calibre if it can't verify that the update process (terminal or installer) has successfully started.

Please let me know if this version finally smooths out the experience for you.

The new plugin closes Calibre, but doesn't open the terminal. Still not updating. I launched Calibre through a terminal to see if I could see any output from trying to use the plugin that way, but no output is provided.

Will the info appear if I start calibre in debug mode and try the plugin? Because the last "improvements" in the debug temporal file have messed a bit with it.
