I get a lot of questions about the reader in my subway travels. I don't bother posting them bc they are never out of the ordinary. I usually have my headphones on with no sound only to make my sitting to walking transition easy; while they are off i always hear all sorts of comments by my fellow commuters on my reader since they think I can't hear them. Well this morning that same occurrence happened. This time is was a young couple, and the girlfriend ( I assume ) was telling the boyfriend to look over, and she proceeds to explain to him what it is ( she nailed the explanation), but she adds that she has never seen one like mine saying it looks "hott", and that she never liked the kindle bc it looks too much like some sort of translator or dictionary that tourists lug around. I can see where she finds the resemblance...

just a curious bit of insight of the possibly "non mobile read community memeber" muggle view on the kindle

tee hee... i'm biased... yes... sue me.

This I do not understand.

BTW, I'm in NYC and when I used my Reader on a subway commute, I'd get questions about it about 1-2 times per week. (I don't have to commute anymore , so I get fewer Reader questions now!)

It's so that when I stop reading I just have to push play on my ipod and not have to fiddle with my headphones to get them on again.

I get all of my reading done on the subway, so if I started to drive my reading would be close to null...=(

I had never seen one either, until the first time I took mine on the train with me, when I discovered that someone sitting 2 seats away from me had a Kindle - as I'm in the UK I wasn't really expecting that!

I live in the deep south bible belt. I was thinking that my new (not here yet) M-Edge cover would make it look MORE like a Bible. Probably 1/2 of the cars in the parking lot have Bibles displayed in them. I think that a nondescript Bible-ish cover would be less likely to be stolen than a black cover with "Sony" on it (I have a 700).

Good job! We need to proselytize and get more people hooked on ebook readers!

I get asked about mine all the time. Most notably was during class one day - the professor stopped everything to ask me what I was using, and if I liked it. Of course, he continued to call it a Kindle (or would say that I was "Kindling") for the rest of the semester even after I said it was a Sony Reader, but oh well. People were definitely interested, and now when they see me, they go, "Oh yeah, you're the Kindle girl, right? How do you like it?" I've given several people advice about which eBook device to get. Bwahaha! Converting one person at a time!

I was traveling through Europe over the last few weeks and got questions about my Reader on the plane, in the airport and once in the train station. I even had a group come up to me in the hotel lounge when I was relaxing one evening with a beer in one hand and the Reader in the other. No one had even heard of it.

Twice I was asked: Do you have to buy a new Reader every time you get new books?

Just this morning a guy sat next to me on the Red Line (L.A.) and immediately said, "Oh cool, that's that Kindle thingy I've been hearing about, in't it?" :-)

(btw, I was reading "Michael Tolliver Lives" by Armistead Maupin - for all you Tales of the City fans, it's great!)

I've never seen one "in the wild" either...I'm in montreal so that could be part of the problem (Kindle isn't really useful here, Sony cannot display thier readers because they do not have bilingual instructions and buttons ect).
