My observation of people with loss of fine motor control is that they will use their mouse to drag something from say their desktop (e.g. a screenshot icon) and drop it into something like Gemini. When I visited an 83 year old friend with CMT and mild dementia last week I saw her do precisely that on her Macbook… she was rather pleased with herself.
And, I'd rather hit let's say Ctrl+Shift+D to pop a small window that disappears when I drop whatever onto it, than have to sort out the mess I created when I dropped something where I didn't want to drop it. BR |

In dark mode:
During: The mechanism itself works fine, though I doubt I’ll actually use it. I’d rather it were optional. Last edited by BeckyEbook; 03-27-2026 at 05:33 AM. |

Making it truly optional is not easy but hiding it based on an env var or a preference is certainly easily doable.
Making it a dialog that can be invoked by a shortcut is possible but it can not autohide as it can not tell when all drags/drops are done, without seeing me sort of user ok or close key. |

I'm one of those weirdos who just never found dragging and dropping files very useful. For one thing, I've never had enough screen real estate to have programs and file explorers open at the same time to easily drag and drop between. So in order to use it, I always had to take time to resize everything to fit before I could attempt it. Hardly ever seemed worth the effort to "get ready" for drag and drop to me. *shrug*
But if enough people like it, I don't think it would ever get in my way. |

I will implement a Sigil Preference to Enable: "Adding Files via Drag and Drop"
which will default to "off" and that hides that Drop Target. |

BeckyEbook beat me to it but I found the dark mode version of the text in the box lacked contrast. OTOH, my eyes are not what they used to be.

My proposals:
1. Padding doesn't matter (at least on Windows). It's better to add two spaces before and after the text. 2. Border: #878787 (this is a neutral colour for both modes). 3. Text: #878787 or #3498DB (popular in our main icons) 4. Enter Event: border: 2px dashed #1D76D5; background: #91C7F9; color: #1665C0; (The default ‘blue’ for the frame clashes with the interface. Here, the frame, background and text use the same colours as the icons, so it looks as though it’s part of the main UI.) |

And should we default to Drop Area Zone **enabled**. That way people can see and play with it, and if undesired turn it off via Preferences and never think about it again.
I am leaning towards the above as opposed to off by default so that people at least give it a try. Thoughts? |
