So even if you try to never connect your Kobo to insecure networks, hosts, USB devices, etc., your host vnc server you are connecting to is still a security vulnerability. I would not use this host for anything critical. I would set a firewall and have the vnc server be read-only.

Elinkser did you get this error from droidvnc at any time? Compiling the source produces this error for droidvnc... i cannot remember if i had this problem the first time i compiled it, i have compiled it many times to see exactly why i couldnt compile it the first time ha
[2026-03-23T04:11:24Z ERROR einkvnc] server disconnected: Unexpected("ZRLE subencoding")

Ive discovered the reason for this, Im using it over ssh and ssh does not carry over the env variables which say what device it is, causing problems somehow bc the wrong device is used. i wonder if this is the same cause as Szybet originally had. Also odd... the code included a function for startup rotation but it was never used... in device.rs. I was able to realise this because claude AI noted the wrong device and... I remembered using koreader to use my recompiled version without error... and yes, koreader terminal is able to use the env variables and so no error. wait wait... no it seems to be ... possibly the root user not being present is the cause bc i messed with niluje's ssh tools?.

ive also been having troubles launching from nickelmenu, it would seem the solution seems to be... editing the nickelmenu from ssh using vi?

it seems i was wrong for whatever reasons they all started working again?? even over ssh. and it stopped working again... huh maybe its droid vnc changing behaviour.

its so damn inconsistent i cant figure it out. oh i see, adding framebuffer rotation slows down the peformance significantly... which somehow leads to crashing out, i think. NO IVE FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!!!, compiling with debug leads to significant performance slow down, which somehow triggers a crash

Okay, so commit 536:neither release nor debug works, neither over ssh or from koreader
commit c03:release works, debug also works but very slow, both over ssh and over koreader/nm. The slowness of the debug eventually crashes the program
commit b26:release works, debug also works but very slow, both over ssh and over koreader/nm. The slowness of the debug eventually crashes the program

after using claude i got a solution
