My main gripe with MS OneNote, then and now, is no local storage. They've overcome that to some degree with improvements to the desktop client UI and local caching. |

I have no idea what people are saving and organizing.
There is something to be said for local static HTML pages served as file://, not http:// Of course you could also serve those pages up on an HTTP server. I do my tech documentation in a single file that gets exploded into separate HTML pages. What is in the file is stripped down HTML. For boring text it would just be <p>. Yes, you can have multiple files too. A TOC and index can get generated automatically, as well as navigation bars. This approach lets you generate EPUBs or HtmlHelp (archaic Windows help) also. This is all a bit arcane and requires a makefile to put everything together. But maybe there's something here to give somebody ideas. |

Have you considered using asciidoc, markdown, or similar instead of HTML? They use an empty line instead of <p> and just about everything else is streamlined and automated.

Fire Tablet and Kindle Books
I thought that Amazon couldn't screw things any more than they've already done.
I bought a Fire Tablet to be able to have a place to send those books that won't go on a plain old Kindle. Did it solve the problem? Abso-freakin-lutely not. If someone could confirm my suspicions that the Fire tablet has never downloaded my entire library and tries to download it every time I power it on. Yes, my library is huge—95906 Kindle books and counting. The damn thing also pops me out of the Kindle app while I'm reading something. Is there a way to delete every app except the Kindle app? Also, where are my book files. I was hoping to get them into Calibre. I abhor Amazon more than I can say. As a book reviewer I had the gut punch of them removing some 800+ reviews in 2023. First, it's the KFX-ZIP debacle that won't let me open Kindle books on my desktop (I do this for reviews because it's easier to search in the Calibre built-in reader. I can't possibly be the only one pissed off about these things. |

Not having a Kindle and not intending to neither I can appreciate your abhorrence to Amazon as it is one of the scummiest companies around but unfortunately somewhat necessary in todays world.
Have you considered running Fire Toolbox on your tablet? https://www.xda-developers.com/amazo...-fire-tablets/ > I don't know if it would still be able to access Scamazons ecosystem after the install tho. I can attest to the 10X performance improvement once all the scummy stuff is disabled having used it on my 10" tablet as well as my grandaughters 8" older one. |
