Libra 2 not connecting to laptop cannot put books onto it

Libra 2 not connecting to laptop cannot put books onto it.
Normally I launch calibre; plug in the kindle - and the books on it appear in left column.
Then I select some books and "send to device".
This has always worked - until today.
Now when the cable is connected to kobo and laptop nothing happens.
Tried rebooting kobo and laptop. No effect.
What might be the cause and what should I do?
Please help.

Does the connect to PC dialog box appear? It sounds like it does not.
-Use a different cable to connect.
-Gently wiggle the connection to the kobo, in case the USB connector has worked loose.
-Make sure the usb connections on the kobo and laptop are clean, that there is no lint or debris in the slot.

When cable is connected to laptop, kobo shows charging.
Kobo is 99% charged.
Cable charges kobo from mains plug.
Everything is completely clean.

When connected to laptop kobo should appear on desktop as a device.
Nothing appears.
Laptop is working perfectly.
Linux Mint 22.3 cinnamon.

Have you tried a different cable? Different USB port? Different computer (hopefully with Windows)?

I am sure cable is OK. Might drive to friend to borrow his. A neighbor has Windows; will try when he's in.

Did you install calibre from the calibre website?

Factory reset very confusing. Now seems done, Now no books. Device still not detected. I bought it 25 March 2024. Is there a warranty? Can it be sent anywhere? Desperate!

Yes it's still under warranty. Once you've tried a different computer and it's still not working, contact Kobo for the warranty. You have to be quick as it could be seen to expire.

The reason I say to wait to try another computer as it looks like you may have a problem on your computer given the log. Have you installed calibre from the official calibre website or did you use a repository?

Just checking, do you have a Sleep Cover on the Kobo, and is the Kobo closed? You have to unlock the Kobo to access Calibre. (I made that mistake when switching from Kindle to Kobo.)
