And, while I'm on Rosalind James, she just came out with three new books in fairly quick succession, in her Portland Devils series. They are kind of a departure for her - three books that fit, more-or-less, in the overall series, but basically have their own story arc, with the fifth one set in the present day, but teeing up the sixth and seventh books, which are historical romances, set during and just after WWII. I'm describing it badly, but I really really liked all three, even if I'm not usually much of a fan of the dual-time-track thing that is the basis of the sixth book.

Due to a bunch of stuff going on at my "real" job, I ended up reading the fifth one, Hell Bent, more or less when it came out, but then was behind on the sixth one, Hell to Pay, so got to read it and the seventh, Heaven Forbid, one right after the other. And those two are pretty closely linked, so that worked well. But now all three are out, and in KU, if you want to give them a try. You don't really need to read the earlier books in the series, but I would read these three in order, because they definitely are more tightly linked than the others.

Wow, after reading your post, I checked out the website. For some reason, I thought it (#4) wasn't coming out until October, and the website says June 30, and that's a placeholder for maybe earlier. So I'm going to join you in poking the website Fingers crossed! I have a long flight coming up in early June - would be great if it came out by then.

So I just was looking at the Caldryn Parliament website, hoping for an updated pub date, and I noticed that at the bottom of Jenny Schwartz's page about getting paperbacks made (and how painful it is), she says she plans to have paperbacks eventually made for all EIGHT Caldryn Parliament books. I had no idea there were going to be that many books, but am quite happy.

I just read The Demon Overlord's Retirement Plan, which is the first book in MH Foster's Gentle Apocalypse series, and also the second book, Love, Politics, and Other Acts of War. (The third book is due out in mid-April, so not too long to wait.) I struggled a bit over whether to put these in the sci-fi/fantasy thread or here, but having read the first two books, I am pretty sure I detect a slow-burn romance, so I put them here. And the second book even has "love" in its title.

The name of the first book pretty much tells you everything you need to know about it, along with knowing that the whole thing is quite tongue-in-cheek. And I just had a ton of fun reading about Galornus Prime, the Scourge of Nations, Ender of Hope, and Master of the Cardinal Sins, as he tries to retire without having either his past, or all the children in his chosen retirement village, catch up with him. Both books are in KU, so if you have that, they are free to try...
