I am very happy about my decision a year ago to switch to buying from Kobo whenever possible.
I suspect my K4 is sufficiently old that so long as I can download books to it, I'll be able to remove the DRM. |

Yup, I mostly buy from Kobo and have for quite a while now. I keep a Kindle Touch for the occassional book I want that isn't available elsewhere. It should be ok unless the battery dies or it cannot connect.

I suggest you update to calibre 9.x as 7.26 is somewhat old.

My Kindle Touch and PW3 are both able to download eBooks were the DRM is able to be removed.
I won't test it on a PW5 as I am not going to risk the firmware being updated. The firmware is 5.16.7. By keeping the WiFi off, the PW5 can read side loaded KF8 no problem. |

).B version? Mine was from the first lot (I saw the posters of the 'soon to be released' K4 at LAB126 while assisting relocating workers), I said 'Why not as my EZReader was geting worn. IIRC there was double-sided tape under the battery. That was the hardest par. Gentle pry pressure and keep it up for a couple of minutes and it will slowly let go. |

no luck with the voyage running 5.13, oasis 8th gen and 9th gen with 5.16.2 is out.
anticipate that any day now the oasis 10th gen with 5.18.2 will also be nixed. only down to a handful of KU authors whose new releases I buy. Split 50-50 whether they've enabled epub downloads which of course you can't determine before purchase |

Updated -
voyage with 5.13 is working, the operator had typed the serial number incorrectly. unfortunately for the 2 oasis with 5.16.2 those numbers were typed correctly |

Well, I'm thinking about saving up for one of the Kobos someday, so I need to ask: is the procedure for adding books to Calibre the same as with a Kindle? No details, of course. If you feel I might need more info right now, PM me.

If you have an eink Kobo, you can add books from it too and deDRM them with the Obok plugin. |

Books bought at Kobo can be downloaded and loaded into calibre easily. They arrive as .acsm files, which are really just a token to allow Adobe Digital Editions to download the book. But there's now a neat plugin for calibre that does the downloading for you, so you can just drag the .acsm file onto calibre, and the plugin will download the book and add it to your calibre library. The ACSM Input plugin can be found here: ACSM Input The only official release is 0.0.16, but I strongly recommend using the 1.0 release which can be found for download in this post in that thread. The calibre-plugin.zip file. If you also have DeDRM installed, after the ACSM Input plugin has downloaded the book, DeDRM will remove the DRM before it's added to your calibre library. To get the book onto your Kindle, just use Amazon's Send To Kindle service. There's a web site, and app, or you can send to your Kindle's email address. You send the ePub - Amazon does any necessary conversions. You can choose to also add the book to your Amazon account, so it'll appear in your documents section and can be re-downloaded from Amazon to your Kindle(s) at any time. |
