Originally, the plan was to just have fun and celebrate the memory of their mutual friend Lance Hahn by being essentially a J Church cover band. Gradually they started writing their own songs and evolved into Carnivorous Flower, their name taken from a J Church song. Our friends Carnivorous Flower told us they recorded an album with Dead Broke in mind, so how could we resist really?

P̲lastic L̲etters is the second studio album by American rock band B̲londie, released in February 1978 by Chrysalis Records. An earlier version with a rearranged track listing was released in Japan in late December 1977.

Plastic Letters has been remastered digitally and reissued twice: the first time by Chrysalis Records in 1994 with two bonus tracks, and the second in 2001 by EMI-Capitol with four bonus tracks. The latter issue features the earliest demo of the band's future hit "Heart of Glass", then known as "The Disco Song".

Injury prevented him from recording for the album, so Coverdale enlisted Steve Vai to record both lead and rhythm guitar.[3] Van den Berg was sufficiently healed to play with the band, in a dual-guitar role alongside Vai, for the tour supporting the album.

A music video was also made for the song featuring the band performing on a stage, with smoke and headlights. There are also scenes of singer David Coverdale in a padded room and scenes of Coverdale's then-wife, Tawny Kitaen being chased by a car. Guitarist Adrian Vandenberg also appears in the video, even though he does not play on the song, due to a hand injury he sustained prior to the recording.
