Spider Robinson had a series of books collecting stories about Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, you may need waders for the bathos. Some stories by Roger Zelazny and Fredric Brown may also fit. |

Asimovs, Robot series is great cozy fun. A bit golden age science fiction, a bit whodunit.
Short as well. The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn. Ignore Robots and Empire, unless you really like his Fundation series. And even as that, it's not that good. |

A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is excellent.

I haven't read this one myself (yet), but I've liked all books I've tried so far which KJ Charles recommends:

You might wish to try the work of Zenna Henderson. Specifically, her 'The People' stories. I highly recommend you read one story and see if it is to your liking.
