Some Star Trek books are full of universe-saving and/or galactic political intrigue.

If you have Netgalley there is a sci fi book called Valet that mentions Wodehouse in the blurb. I haven't read it yet and it comes out in June

The "spaceport bar" theme may appeal to you, there is at least one anthology with that in the title, a search will probably find more.

Spider Robinson had a series of books collecting stories about Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, you may need waders for the bathos.

Some stories by Roger Zelazny and Fredric Brown may also fit.

Asimovs, Robot series is great cozy fun. A bit golden age science fiction, a bit whodunit.

Short as well.
The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn.
Ignore Robots and Empire, unless you really like his Fundation series. And even as that, it's not that good.

I don't know exactly what happened here but it was amazing. Absolutely delightful cosy SF about death and life and Biblically accurate angels. So basically there's a company that uploads you when you die and grows you a new body, and the AI running it is the Metatron, only the Metatron falls in love with one of the uploaded people while back in reality a resurrected ADHD recovering addict is getting its emotions. There's also a killer. It all makes sense when you read it, and mostly it's a really lovely story about what life and love mean, and what we need to do with those things.

Immensely inclusive, with a lot of trans and disability rep casually present, immensely kind. Also the AI's avatar is, as noted, a biblically accurate angel, and when it does text emoticons they're like :::::: ), and I am still laughing about that. A terrific, bonkers comfort read, strong recommend.

You might wish to try the work of Zenna Henderson. Specifically, her 'The People' stories. I highly recommend you read one story and see if it is to your liking.
