do you manage your kindle books in Calibre?
With my Kobo I used Calibre to convert bought kindle books to EPUB. I also used the Edit Metadata window and added a Tag for its genre, added the Comment (copied from Amazon's page), and set up its Series info if it was in a series.
I now have a Kindle ereader and I'm wondering how to manage its books. I do all of my book ordering from Amazon's web page and have it send it to my Kindle. When I connect the Kindle to my PC I can send the book to Calibre but the book itself is in KFX-ZIP format, which is unusable. I can make Calibre remove that KFX-ZIP file since it's useless, but do as before and edit the book's metadata the same as I did for an EPUB. So now I can use Calibre to look for books by genre, series, etc. What other things could I be using Calibre for for organizing my library and managing the books? |

I'd recommend buying from Kobo if possible, as it's generally cheaper (if you're in a country with price-matching) and the DRM is a lot easier to remove. Then use Amazon's "Send To Kindle" to send the drm-free epub version to your amazon account. Amazon then do a conversion to a suitable kindle format when you download to your kindle from your Amazon account.
But if buying from Amazon, you can still remove the DRM if you jump through hoops, but I don't know the details anymore, since I switched to buying from Kobo almost exclusively a year ago. On hoop I do know is the one I use - have an old Kindle which can still download in a pre-KFX format from which the DRM can be easily removed. I use calibre to track when I bought a book (date added to calibre), how much I paid, where I bought it from, the latter two being custom columns. |

I disinfect all my Kindle purchases with Satsuoni's method for Kindle for PC, manage them in calibre and read them on my Kobos. I would never buy an ebook with an unremovable DRM. If I couldn't clean up my Kindle books, I wouldn't buy them. I do buy most of my books elsewhere these days.

Last night I was reading a book on the kindle after having finished one that was recently published and which used "adjustable-layout". The second book didn't have the adjustable-layout and the line spacing was double spaced. Then moving around in the kindle's user interface drove home how incredibly crude it is. My first kindle was the Kindle Touch and after all these years the user interface is still just as crude as it was back then. I started getting a headache from the aggravation. |
