Looking for: Cozy science fiction
Less universe-saving and galactic political intrigue, more low-stakes plots - similar to all the cozy fantasies about running coffeeshops or whatever
I already aware of Becky Chambers' series (I forgot name) and the Murderbot series and read them. Last edited by ownedbycats; 03-05-2026 at 11:11 PM. |

You might like these two short reads and their sequels:
Olivia Waite: Murder by Memory (the next book Nobody's Baby is coming out soon) : cosy-vibes sapphic murder mystery in space. Comped as "Becky Chambers meets Miss Marple ". Malka Older: The Mimicking of Known Successes, book one of three so far. Also sapphic, murder mystery on Jupiter with a gaslamp/Holmes feel. Also Analee Newitz, Automatic Noodle. "a cozy near-future novella about a crew of abandoned food service bots opening their very own restaurant." And The Cybernetic Tea Shop by Meredith Katz. |

Cat Rambo - "You Sexy Thing" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Sexy_Thing_(book)) was on that topic, from the ones I've read. Very nice and well written too.

H. Beam Piper's _Little Fuzzy_ is my go-to for this.
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/18137 The sequels authored by him are great as well, and the ones authored by Ardath Mayhar are an interesting alternate take: https://www.goodreads.com/series/49377-fuzzy-sapiens |

Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series by Nathan Lowell might work for this.

Did you enjoy this? I found Before the Coffee Gets Cold to not have a cosy vibe at all. Plus the writing and/or translation is clunky, and I found it sexist AF. (It's also fantasy-style time travel, not SFnal.) One of my few one-star reads of the past two years.
The Lee book is fantasy romance. And I'm pretty sure that the last book is AI slop. Last edited by meeera; Yesterday at 11:02 AM. |

I always considered Star Trek cozy, especially the Peter David novels.
But if you want comedy too, I'd read Dirk Gently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirk_G...tective_Agency The Eureka TV series novelizations are also good. If it doesn't have to be science fiction and only comedy, I do enjoy the Jeeves stories by P.G. Wodehouse. |
