I side-loaded an AZW3 comic (downloaded 'for transfer via USB' back in the day) and it works fine (except no cover thumbnail appears). Note this has ctype=EBOK.
KCC now I think uses ctype=PDOC but in past used ctype=EBOK. I do not know if that matters, but it would be interesting to know if it does. In any case AZW3 is easily inspected so some other difference in HTML/CSS might shed some light. |

EDIT: a scribe 2022 user reported the problem just now Have you tried loading any files generated by kcc? I made some sample files a while ago if you want to try loading a mobi. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/ixh...c5/kcc_samples Last edited by axu2; 02-27-2026 at 01:52 AM. |

But then I did try KCC, and while I'm not seeing extra whitespace, I'm seeing a lot of pages that do not render and remain blank. AZW3 files that were downloaded from Amazon do not seem to work correctly either: I downloaded one to my Kindle Touch and side loaded it to Scribe. (This would identify as EBOK, not PDOC as with the KCC book). Some pages display a black square instead of rendering the page content. KCC has orientation setting available, but not the AZW3 I moved over. But it's moot since neither works. Maybe it 'should' work but do we really think this will ever be a priority for Amazon to fix? Which is another reason I don't use KCC and use Kindle Create instead to get KFX for side loading, or if I want it in my Library, PDF & Send To Kindle (hey, you can draw on them! or colorize BW manga/comics on Scribe Colorsoft). |

It also happens on 2022 Scribes with certain option choices like png/crop: https://github.com/ciromattia/kcc/issues/1224 Quote:
Also, Kindle Create often renders images at 1500x2250 last time I checked, which isn't quite the 1860x2480 of the Scribe 2022. |

I took a look at the 5.19.2 firmware. Some notable changes that may reflect upcoming new features:
Large expansion of apps that run under Mesquite: addviewer, audibleupsell, csapp, fts, grokterms, help, kft, ku, mfa, mysn, odac, payment, prime, privacy, subscription, webview. AI generation of new Scribe notebook templates from images. |

I keep hoping they will add Comixology support (borrow, return, filter, thumbnail 'badge', etc.). There are plenty of B&W manga/comics that can be read on any Kindle not to mention those with color and screen size to handle them comfortably.

The word itself was coined by Robert Heinlein in 1961 in Stranger in a Strange Land. I have no idea whether amazon is making a nod to that or it is a coincidence. |

Tested out the 5.19.2 firmware on my KPW 6 and Kindle Colorsoft. I found that the font embedding doesn't work well. For Chinese books, I used to embed a font for rare characters, and then used CSS "font-family" property to specify those characters to use that font. In previous firmware, this worked well, but in this new firmware, it doesn't work, resulting in the rare character being displayed as a square (☐). Since this font isn't used as the primary font for the main text, it doesn't show up in the font selection dialog as "Publisher Font". It seems the new firmware has ignored my font specification, and has fallen back to the default system font.
