It's not just an ordinary elevator.

This is a novella about ordinary people who have the same traits and behavioral patterns that we have - but they are not us. (Thank God!):

Barton Bader - Health-care professional; large posterior; bald

Phil Brinker - Banker and part-time comedian; later goes insane

Henry Butterman - Main character; narrator; 46 years old

Carol Clune - Prostitute; mid-twenties

Carrie Faultenberg - Pop eyes; cadaverous face; withered body; large head; mostly comatose

Jimmy Flagstaff - Teenager who works in the mall; has a crush on Carol Clune, the prostitute

Mrs. Hortense - Rich, older lady; immense bosoms

Margaret Lars - Pre-cancerous mole; squat body

Maurice Percy - English schoolteacher; fastidious; has a neatly trimmed mustache

Flem Pickering - Upswept silver hair; large jowls; smoker; beer belly, dangling toothpick, nose full of wild hair
