As mentioned, this update is only for the Kobo Libra Colour, Clara Colour and Clara BW. Very little information on what changes were made other than:
  • Added missing components for Libra Colour and Clara BW/Colour (NXXXB models) to ensure proper system updates
  • Improvements to certification update process
  • Fixed translations

And once again, this update breaks the Unify Font Size patch.

Yes, I can confirm this patch no longer works.

However, is it possible that this patch is no longer required? I've just opened a kepub and an epub (both previously unread) on my Libra Colour with 4.45.23640 and the font-size appears the same in both.

It would be good if someone else could confirm/deny this potential good news.

That would be good if this is fixed in the latest Libra 2 firmware or the next Libra 2 firmware.

I upgraded manually to Fw 4.45.23640 and had an interesting new feature:
double columns (see attachment). Somehow I could make this going away, but I have no clue how to really enable/disable this.
Anyone seen this "feature" too?

I've seen that when I've set the font size to small enough and the maximum column width gets exceeded when using RMSDK (ePUb). It does not happen with the Readium based renderer for kepubs.

I wonder whether Kobo Remote issues were addressed.

IIRC, the Libra 2 was the one with the issue with the Remote where the wake up turned on both WiFi and Bluetooth.

This firmware is only for the Libra Colour, Clara Colour and Clara BW which use a different chipset.

I'm behind the times. When did Kobo switch from WebKit to Readium? Are there any pros/cons to the new engine?

When Kobo entered the Japanese market, they started with ACCESS' NetFront™ BookReader v1.0 EPUB Edition which was later modified to be WebKit based. In the meantime, ACCESS donated their PUBLUS™ Reader engine to the Readium project and their NetFront™ BookReader technology was integrated into the Readium EPUB 3 reference platform. Readium is based on WebKit (and by extension, Chromium/Blink).

The newest version is an evolution of the previous versions. I'm not sure which Readium SDK it is based on but most likely the Readium 2 Desktop SDK for Linux (basically, the same code base used for Thorium for Linux).

If you mean the About Kobo Libra Colour items in Settings? Unlike earlier versions, it is now treated as a book so you can change the font, font size and other settings. On mine, I had to reduce the font size to about 50% of what I normally read at to get the pages looking somewhat similar to the pages on my Sage. The first time I opened it, I got to see About Kobo Libra Colour as pretty much all of the first page.

I've had issues with random freezing on the Clara BW when using the remote. No battery drain, just complete freezing for up to 2 minutes when turning pages or turning the reader on while it's paired to an active Kobo Remote.

I'll try forcing an update tonight to see if that's fixed.

yes, i'm talking about that. the layout is strange. it feels like something is broken. there is an another page(?) number on the right edge which appears randomly.

now i see. i'm working on a custom translation project and after the extraction i realized that they removed the about page completely from the language files. i don't get the point, but as you said it is now a separate book. as i understand the reader downloads it or it is hard coded somewhere.
