Bricked > new SD & 24h charging. But does not turn on

Hi all,

Last weekend, my wife's Libra 2 got bricked while connecting to a wifi: white screen and flashing LED. Hard reboots did not work.
DNSB kindly provided the image to my specifications, which I put on a different sd card (not a new one, but one that used to work well).
However, I still cannot turn on the Kobo. I charged it four 24 hours, but it does not respond.

Interestingly, when the sd slot is empty, and I connect the Kobo to my computer, I hear the connection. If the sd slot is *not* empty (original sd or new sd), then I do not get the connection sound from my computer.

I am not sure what to do. Load longer? Buy a new SD-card? Give up?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your responses.

It is a microSD hc, no further logo on it.
I cleaned the holder as best I could with a wooden pick.

Any news on this?

I'd like to update my sd to something a bit faster. Not exactly bricked but I am hoping to avoid brick

I think there are at least five difference images for the KL2, depending on the revision of the device. DNSB should have that info if you can double check.

Found a PNY Elite-X 64gb microsd I had in the drawer, 7+mbps 4kb random read/write performance from a crystalmark test, so I decided to crack open the KL2.

I had reasonable amount of the conformal coating on the top & bottom of the original microsd in the device that took some 91% IPA and a lot of patience to remove. Cloned the original to the new card and extended the partition, popped in the new card and everything works. Feels snappier too, the original card was some Sandisk A2 that only had <4mbps read/write performance, so I am happy with the swap.

Anyway I did notice what could cause some issues for folks is that the conformal coating may peel off the card like a thin skin. If that thin skin is left inside the slot when you go to reinsert the microsd card it may then block the contacts. Because of the metal shield it seems impossible to see if it does happen. But I suspect that if you have any issues with the card and you know for a fact the card was flashed properly then check the contact pins on the card or device slot. You might need some more IPA, a toothpick and a magnifying glass to help ensure there is not debris left in the slot before installing the card.

Best of luck to those who attempt the swap!
