Wow, apparently I have superhuman eye-sight!

I could not stand reading on Boox's earlier 13" devices with a lower PPI. I have also compared 300 and 260 PPI screens. And Carta 1000, 1200 and 1300. The difference is pretty clear to me.

That said, I agree that other factors weigh in, such as the quality of the glass cover (or absence thereof).

But here it just feels like certain people make excuses for companies. Why not use 300PPI screens since there is a clear difference (whether or not YOU, personally, can see it or not)? Why not use more recent hardware, so that the device doesn't feel sluggish to use?

Also, page turn buttons are a must for me.

I don't have a 7" reader. The 6 inch PocketBooks I own have the page turn buttons on the bottom so they don't make the reader any wider, just a little longer.

I’d guess that in this case, it’s cost and availability.

It doesn’t seem to me that PocketBook generally gets the newest and best screens from E Ink (they don’t have any Carta 1300 devices), and since they don’t have a global bookstore like Amazon or Kobo, can’t really offset device costs by hoping people buy books from them, so they seem to aim to make decent-ish “budget” devices, at least in some ranges.

I like buttons, so I wouldn’t get the Inkpad One (it also seems a bit large for just reading regular books to me), but it’s priced quite competitively for a device that large (around 100 euros cheaper than Kobo Elipsa 2E, which is probably its most direct competitor, and ~200 euros below Kindle Scribe), so I’m guessing it may be attractive enough for people who want a larger screen but can’t afford or don’t want/need a Scribe or a Supernote or ReMarkable or a larger Boox or some other Android - it’s probably “sharp enough” for both PDFs and manga, and sharp enough for people who are shopping for a larger screen because they need to use large fonts.

I have to contort my fingers to reach them, and even then I only like them from the side edges.
The current positions are in the wrong places for me, making the devices completely unnecessarily bulky.

A good chunk of the ereader owners I know are older people for whom being able to change the font size in an ebook is a game changer compared to waiting for a book to be released in large print.

Do you read with a magnifying glass? Or from what distance?

At this screen size, the price difference for Mobius is well over US$100.

I bought myself an InkPad Lite for Christmas ; I wanted to try a larger screen but didn't want to pay Ellipsa or Scribe prices. Im not interested in notes or annotations, just reading.
I was aware of the opprobrium heaped upon the screen - 1500PPI! Gasp! The horror 😱
But I faced my fear and did it anyway and I LOVE IT.
Maybe because I know and like the Pocketbook UI I don't find it sluggish or laggy. The text looks crisp and sharp enough to me at 12 or 13 points and I can switch happily between it a nd an InkPad 3 at 300ppi.
I suppose I don't qualify as a pixel-peeper 😔

For me it depends on when I am reading, but either nearly arm length or in my lap, or if reading in bed without glasses about 6-8". Up close and in my uncorrected focal range it's of course obvious there are jaggies and blurry edges to letters at 167ppi on an older Kindle that I don't see on my Oasis. At arm length with correction, I can see that the Oasis renders more clearly between letters while the old Kindle is more difficult to distinguish and takes a bit more mental load to read. 150 ppi would be even worse. At 300 ppi things look nearly as clear as print.

acsm is the file used to tell ADE how to download the ePub. It's not the software for to this. That would be the version of RMSDK that Pocketbook is using.

I have a Kobo Aura H2O that has an IR touch so it doesn't have a touch layer. It has a PPI of 265. You would not notice the different between that and my Kobo Libra 2 which is 300 PPI. The Libra 2 has a touch layer.
