Montgomery, L. M.: Rainbow Valley. v1. 20 Feb 2026

Ah, the younger generation …

The seventh of the Anne Shirley books follows the six Blythe children as they befriend the four wild, motherless children of Anne’s new neighbour, the widowed and often absent-minded Presbyterian minister John Meredith. The Meredith children are neglected by their well-meaning but distracted father, leading them to constantly scandalize the town with their antics. The “Ingleside children” and the “Manse children” share adventures in a hidden valley, rescue a runaway named Mary Vance, and and try to find a new wife for Mr. Meredith who will properly care for his children.

Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) is best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables (1908). Montgomery gained international recognition during her lifetime as a result of her portrayal of the title character, orphan Anne Shirley. A prolific writer, she published 30 essays, 500 poems, 530 short stories, and 20 novels. Almost all of her works remain in print today. Although her work is frequently categorized as "juvenile fiction," adults continue to be devoted readers. [/B]
