FWIW, I tested the DEBUG7 build on my old iMac on Linux using a Windows 11 VM and it passed all my tests!

I confirm that Debug7 works. I will compile my own version and test it during normal EPUB file editing.

Great! Thank you!

If you grab current master now, you should get a version with updated profile caches and all debug turned off.

Do not forget to get rid of your SIGIL_DEBUG_LOGFILE env var.

I have tested both test cases we have used here as well as pdf display and use of local storage.

With current master, so far so good!

I compile the debug7 code and pretty much everything looked okay. The first time I opened the blank document, in the log file, there was an error message:
Code:
Error: URLInterceptorDebug: In ViewPreview ConnectSignalsToSlots
However this error never re-occurred. I ran the tests on my physical box and in two VMs running Windows 11.

Your URL document error is interesting:

Debug: Error: URLInterceptor cannot determine book folder so all file requests blocked

It is generated by our Sigil/src/Misc/URLInterceptor.cpp code whose job it is to prevent anything in the epub from loading anything NOT in the current epub folder, mathjax folder, or Sigil preferences folder.

It is warning that it can not find a disc based book folder for the empty epub that Sigil opens at startup. Since it can't find the folder, it can not tell if any link is to something outside of it and to be safe denies that request.

This may just be an artifact of an unused empty epub. Either way I will take a look see.

Thanks for testing and reporting back.

@DNSB,
If you think you can recreate this url error with another empty book start up of Sigil.

Please edit Sigil/src/Misc/URLInterceptor.cpp and in line 33, change this line:

#define DBG if(0)

in that file to be

#define DBG if(1)

And then in line 111, remove the beginning // from this line:

// DBG qDebug() << "path_to_book: " << path_to_book;

to become:

DBG qDebug() << "path_to_book: " << path_to_book;

and then recompile and run the same tests with a fresh debug log file and post it here.

That way we might be able to see what url request is triggering your error, assuming it is repeatable.

Thanks!

The requirements I need to propose are very simple: regarding the enhancement of Sigil's table of contents editing functionality.

Currently, there are two major pain points with Sigil's table of contents editing feature:

1. Inability to select multiple entries, which makes handling messy second or third-level headings exceptionally troublesome.

Therefore, I suggest: in future versions, allow multiple entries to be selected, including using Shift for continuous selection and Ctrl for individual selection.

2. Sometimes, to save effort, we modify books by editing the original table of contents. Some source directory structures are well-organized, but the details are lacking, so we use the automatic table of contents generation feature to save time. However, currently, Sigil overwrites the original table of contents after automatically generating a new one.

Therefore, I suggest: in future versions, add a button under the table of contents editing window labeled "Generate Table of Contents," with a right arrow containing options like "None," "Highest Level 1," "Highest Level 2," … "All," and place the newly generated table of contents directly below the existing one for easy adjustment.

Thank you to the Sigil development team!

Suggestions for this cycle are closed already. You will see a new thread like this after Sigil 2.7.5 is formally released. Please post your suggestions there once that new thread is open.

Some comments:

- moving more than one element at a time in the TOC Editor should be possible

- No, appending a second table after the first is a non-starter. Just export or save the ncx or nav to a file first. There is also a plugin that can help save a toc so that Sigil's regen will include it. There is already a pulldown to select highest entry when generating a toc.

Wonderful. The debug output now looks so much more sane in all of the posts, and my own included. It was just "luck" that things worked on Mac and Linux. The multithreading on Windows is different enough that the log could show the mixing of the threads enough to see that clearing the cache while loading the Preview was a very bad idea.

Hopefully it is all nailed down.

If you get a chance with current master, would you test to see if the new WebProfileMgr code still allows a second instance of Sigil to operate at normal speeds on Windows.

Thanks!
