Updating 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 Help!
I just got the Kindle 4 from ebay. It's working great! I want to jailbreak it and first step is update your Kindle. Easy enough...except when I click on it my computer keeps saying it can't open the zip file. For reference I have a MacBook Air 12.7.6. I have tried using online zip applications and they are all basically doing the same thing. I wanted to stop here and see if anyone had any opinions on something I might not be seeing before I start contacting Amazon. Thanks!

What zip file? Kindle updates are .bin files.

For what it is worth, where were you attempting to get the update from? From Amazon.com's Kindle firmware update page, the Kindle 4th & 5th Generation download link downloads a .bin file (Update_2692310002-3543630001.bin) not a .zip file. The instructions are on Amazon at Manually Update Your Kindle E-Reader.

Welcome to Mobileread!
For any additional issues or other questions, you will probably want to post in the actual Kindle Forum. For your convenience, I have provided a link: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=140 |

It's likely that your browser is being "helpful" and renaming the file. Just leave it as-downloaded and rename it so the extension is .bin instead of .zip. Copy it to the Kindle as-is.

Got it not a zip a bin. I was able to do the steps to update. Select update. It restarted. But it is still on 4.1.3. It does say I only have 1370 MB free but it's factory reset and nothing is on this thing at all I even removed the kindle user guide manual.

Can you copy books to your Kindle and have them index and show up? The Update option shows up as enabled after you copied the .bin file to your Kindle? |
