3 Books on Kobo Sage Ignoring Tags: SOLVED
I've got at least 3 books edited and transferred in Calibre to my Kobo Sage (automatically converted from epub to kepub) that are ignoring their Calibre tags on the Sage (i.e., they're not in their Kobo Collections). I spot-checked one of them on my wife's Sage and it, too, is ignoring the Calibre tags.
In Calibre, the books have the Science Fiction and the Standalone Books tags. They're not in any series (which is why I've tagged them with Standalone Books). If I filter Calibre to the Standalone Books tag, all the books show up there. If I plug the Sage into the computer, all the appropriate books in that Calibre tag list get a checkmark saying they're on the Kobo. Calibre says there are 83 book in that tagged list, the Kobo says there are 80. If I search on the Kobo for those three books, they're there and I can open and read them. All of the above applies to the Science Fiction tag/collection as well. The Kobos aren't complaining about anything. I had the computer check my Kobo and it found no problems. In Calibre, I checked the Library and it found no problems. I've deleted one of the books from the Kobo and used Send to Device in Calibre to add it back (disconnecting and reconnecting again afterward and rebooting the Kobo). I've used Kobo Utilities to Update ToC for Selected Books. Nothing I do makes any difference. The books are there on the Kobo but their Calibre tags aren't reflected in the Kobo's collections. One of the 3 books I've found is a fairly recent addition to my library (Provenance by Ann Leckie). The other 2 books I've found have been in my library for years (Last Year by Robert Charles Wilson and Turning Evolved by David Kitson). I'm currently using Calibre 9.2.1 on Bazzite (linux) in a flatpak. But those older two books were added long ago in previous Calibre versions under Windows. I'm not sure if I should be posting here or over in the Kobo forums. But, does anyone have any suggestions of what I've forgotten to do or how to fix this? EDIT 1: I also looked at my top 3 Calibre tags (Fantasy (166 books), Science Fiction (155 books) and Mystery (69 books)). A quick and dirty check of the number of titles in each of those and comparing it to the number in the Kobo collections indicates 6 missing from Fantasy, 6 in Science Fiction and 1 in Mystery. EDIT 2: I connected my Kobo to my computer and in Calibre did Device > Update Cached Metadata on Device. No difference. Back on the the Kobo, I manually added one of the problematic books to that Standalone Books collection and it worked just fine. So, I deleted that book from the Kobo again, went back to Calibre and Scrambled the book (apparently, tags don't get Scrambled so they were still present), copied it to a test library and added that scrambled book to the Kobo. The tags still didn't get converted to the equivalent Kobo collections. I'm attaching that Scrambled book here. Last edited by enuddleyarbl; 02-09-2026 at 05:03 PM. |

Try adding these books again to your library and see what happens.

Oops. Crossed paths. I Scrambled one of the books added it to another library and added it back to the Kobo. Still no dice. Scrambled book is attached in the OP.

Also, you don't need collections for books in a series as you can use series instead. |

Somehow, sometime, it looks like I managed to lose the Collections Column setting. I connected the Kobo, went to Device > Configure this Device > Collections, Covers & Uploads and there was the checked Collections Column entry blank. I entered
Code:

![]() |
