not powering on anymore

My Kobo Clara HD seems to be broken after/during a charge. Since charging my Clara HD the screen is blank and the white LED in the power button is blinking.

When I press the power button for 10+ seconds the device turns off. Then when I power it on the screen blinks one time and then the screen turns off and the LED in the power button keeps blinking..

Seems like I can't do anything with the device, is there a way to fix it?

Interesting! I have the exact same problem, which kicked in at about 10-11pm last night (GMT). I wonder if they're connected.

I was happily reading a book, tried to switch to another, and kept getting "can't open this book, try synching". Synching didn't work. I tried rebooting it, and ended up in the same situation as you. The three loading boxes don't display.

I've been through the Kobo help chat with a string of different customer service popping in. They had me try factory reset and then manual factory reset, but if they did anything at all, it's not obvious (things are meant to show on the screen, and they don't). Rakuten Kobo say there's nothing more they can do and I have to buy a new one.

I would also be very grateful for any suggestions to fix this.

I'm afraid I don't know what that is, but searching around suggests it's software that can create ebooks. I might be missing something, or possibly you replied to the wrong thread?

You may want to try a manual factory reset on your Clara HD if you haven't already done so. If that doesn't work, you can ask for an image to try re-imaging your Clara HD's µSD card in the Kobo µSD Card Image Requests thread.
  1. Connect your eReader to a power source by doing one of the following:
  • Turn on your computer and connect the included USB power cord to your computer first, and then your eReader.
  • Plug the wall charger (not included) to a power outlet, and then connect your eReader to the wall charger.
  • Charge for 1 hour.
  1. Press and hold the power button until you see the words “Powered off” on the screen and until the power light turns off. If there is no response after 30 seconds of holding the power button, continue to the next step.
  2. Release the power button.
  3. Hold down the power button.
  4. The power light will remain on.
  5. Once the power light turns off, release the power button.
  6. Your eReader will start the factory reset process. You should see a black screen that tells you the eReader is resetting. Do not turn off your eReader during this process.

As for Jon's comment, I suspect he was referring to starting calibre in safe mode not Sigil.
