Mamdani promotes ereading (and audiobooks)
At a news conference during the recent storm, New York's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, urged people to stay home and recommended, ebooks! to pass the time. Specifically the book that's the source of the hit HBO show (calm down, Canadians! it's an import along with those cold fronts) Heated Rivalry.

The number of downloads of “Heated Rivalry,” the second book in the Game Changers series by Rachel Reid, surged by 529 percent after Mr. Mamdani’s news conference, according to Lizzie Tribone, a spokeswoman for the library. She said 86 percent of the downloads on Sunday happened after Mr. Mamdani’s endorsement.

The library had made an unlimited number of copies of the series available on its app on Saturday, and since then “Heated Rivalry” has been downloaded more than 5,000 times, she said. Altogether, the six books in the series have been downloaded more than 13,000 times.
In truth I knew nothing about the books or the show until this article, but I think it's pretty terrific. You go, Mr. Mayor!

I guess it could be the same as men liking f/f, but honestly, it's just twice as much of what I'm interested in, I don't have to worry about comparing myself to the female love interest, and no background worry about periods or pregnancy.

Unless you go for MPreg, which is cool, just not much into it myself.

That's why fanfic is so full of M/M. For the longest time, couldn't find it anywhere else easy to get to.

Yup, we just like a good romance whether it be M/F, F/F, M/M, or Were/anything. So long as the writing is good and the characters are believable, we will read it!

Nah, not for me. Those are usually more relationship drama than I want to get into, so I'm def a duo type of person.

Two hot people clashing and bickering as their flirting style is a romance, more than two and its a messy brawl. Lol

Plus, with just two you can also bring in a lot of major plot of some kind or another, and it's not so much romance.

I like 'em heavy on the Mystery/Fantasy/Scifi plot and not so much on endless emotional crises. That's also how I wrote my fanfic.

I imagine it's easy to think that if you've never actually listened to people in the fandom.

The overwhelmingly popular response is that it's the romance storyline that's the primary interest, not the sex (though obviously the sex scenes include emotional and relationship development; that's why they're there). Women enjoy reading about men being emotionally vulnerable, loving, and nurturing.

The ratings of the TV series bear this out also: by far the most rewatched episode is number 5, the one without sex scenes.
